About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker to take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance, security and cleanliness of the school site. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

This position is 4hrs (6am-10am) per day Monday - Friday, 39 weeks per year.

Ad hoc hours may be available during school holidays. Weekend work is also available opening and closing the school totalling 4hrs.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and closing the school premises, including unlocking/locking buildings and setting alarms
• Maintaining site security and carrying out regular health and safety checks
• Undertaking minor repairs, maintenance and DIY tasks
• Monitoring the condition of the buildings, grounds and equipment and reporting defects
• Supporting contractors on site and monitoring their work
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, including fire safety checks
• Assisting with room set-ups for school events and activities
• Supporting cleaning standards and waste management
• Maintaining external areas, including litter picking and basic grounds maintenance (weather permitting)

Health, Safety & Safeguarding

• Promote and maintain a strong culture of health and safety
• Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns in line with school policy
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with pupils at all times

Person Specification

Essential

• Practical maintenance or caretaking experience (school or similar environment desirable)
• Good DIY and basic maintenance skills
• Awareness of health and safety requirements
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Reliable, flexible and proactive approach
• Good communication skills

Desirable

• Experience working in a school or educational setting
• Knowledge of COSHH, fire safety or site management procedures
• Relevant maintenance or facilities qualifications
