Job Overview

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides strategic clinical leadership across all medical operations within DaVita UK. The CMO is responsible for ensuring excellence in patient care, clinical governance, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and medical innovation while supporting organisational growth and operational effectiveness.

The hybrid role acts as the senior clinical advisor to the executive leadership team and collaborates closely with nephrologists, multidisciplinary teams, regulators, commissioners, and healthcare partners.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide overall medical leadership and direction across all clinical services.
  • Develop and implement clinical strategies aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
  • Support safe, patient-centred, and outcome-driven care delivery.

Clinical Governance & Compliance

  • Lead clinical governance frameworks and patient safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Care Quality Commission standards
  • General Medical Council requirements
  • National Health Service clinical standards
  • Oversee incident reviews, risk management, audits, and safeguarding processes.

Medical Workforce Leadership

  • Provide leadership and support to consultants, nephrologists, and clinical teams.
  • Participate in recruitment, appraisal, mentoring, and professional development of medical staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and clinical excellence.

Quality & Patient Outcomes

  • Monitor clinical performance metrics and patient outcomes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve dialysis quality indicators and patient experience.
  • Support innovation in renal care pathways and service delivery models.

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, service expansion, and organisational development.
  • Support contract performance, stakeholder engagement, and partnership development.

External Representation

  • Represent DaVita UK with healthcare commissioners, regulators, and professional bodies.
  • Build strong relationships with NHS partners and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in industry forums, conferences, and clinical advisory groups.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Medical degree with full registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
  • Specialist registration in Nephrology or a related specialty.
  • Significant senior clinical leadership experience within healthcare organisations.
  • Strong understanding of UK healthcare regulation and clinical governance.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and patient safety programmes.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Leadership or management qualification (MBA, MSc Healthcare Leadership, or equivalent).
  • Experience within renal services or dialysis operations.
  • Experience working with NHS commissioning frameworks and private healthcare partnerships.
