Full job description

About Us:
The Outdoors Group is a pioneering ‘for purpose’ organisation based in Devon, dedicated to transforming lives through outdoor education. We’re passionate about creating a vibrant, inclusive community where learners, staff, and partners thrive. Our unique approach blends hands-on, nature-based learning with a strong commitment to wellbeing, creativity, and personal growth.

At The Outdoors School, our independent special school set entirely outdoors in beautiful woodland settings, we support young people with SEMH, Autism, and ADHD to develop skills for life beyond the classroom—building confidence, resilience, and independence in an inspiring environment.

Alongside our main school, we offer a bespoke, highly personalised provision delivered on a 1:1, 2:1 or small group basis across woodland, home, and community settings. Every programme is tailored to the individual learner—meaning no two days or approaches are ever the same.

For this role, we currently have two learners requiring support: one based in Crediton and the other in the Exeter area. As this position involves supporting one learner, please indicate your preferred location when submitting your application.

We value work-life balance, continuous development, and fostering a supportive, fun workplace culture where every team member can make a real difference.

Unique Perks:

  • A values-driven, friendly organisation
  • Access to CPD and internal development opportunities
  • Company-funded Employee Assistance Program via Mintago – supporting your financial wellbeing
  • Workplace health and wellbeing support through Health Assured (24/7 counselling and resources)
  • 10% staff discount across all Outdoors Group services
  • Beautiful outdoor work environments
  • Annual staff celebration events
  • Flexible and collaborative culture

About the Role:
As a Hybrid Education Facilitator, you will deliver personalised, learner-led education across a mix of woodland, community, and home settings. Working on a 1:1, 2:1, or small group basis, you’ll support children and young people with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, and school avoidance through creative, project-based learning tailored to their individual interests and development.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. A key part of the position involves transporting learners to and from sessions, activities, and community locations, so driving is an essential requirement. You’ll be part of a supportive team, helping to create safe, engaging environments where learners can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalised support aligned with individual learner plans
  • Foster positive relationships and promote emotional wellbeing
  • Support behaviour management and contribute to assessments and risk plans
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate with families and professionals
  • Work flexibly across woodland, home, and community settings
  • Safely transport learners as part of their provision
  • Engage in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development

What You’ll Need:

  • Excellent behaviour management skills with a solution-focused approach
  • Experience working with learners with SEMH and ASD/PDA (primary or secondary)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to differentiate learning and create bespoke opportunities
  • A reflective, learner-centred approach to support and development
  • Resilience to work outdoors in all weather and emotionally demanding situations
  • Ability to support learners with dysregulated or challenging behaviours
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and continuous improvement
  • 5 GCSEs (A–C) or equivalent
  • Willingness to undertake training and enhanced DBS checks
  • Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to obtain Business Car Insurance (essential)

Desirable:

  • Experience in outdoor education or Forest School settings
  • Knowledge of behaviour intervention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed practice
  • Understanding of inter-agency working
  • Experience supporting learners with SEN, SEMH, or personalised provision
  • Relevant qualifications such as Forest School Leader Level 3, Paediatric First Aid, or Safeguarding Level 2
  • Training in behaviour support approaches (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE, PIP)

If you’re passionate about delivering meaningful, personalised education and want to make a real impact in a dynamic outdoor environment, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today!
