Job description
The role and responsibilities
As an Investment Consultant (Principal), you will play a key role in helping The Pensions Regulator oversee investment strategies across Defined Contribution (DC), Master Trust and Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) pension schemes.
We are looking for someone who can help us build strong ongoing relationships with pension schemes, their employers and their administrators; in addition to working across teams internally to help develop frameworks and monitoring to support our market-wide oversight. The role combines relationship management, analysis and problem solving, requiring the ability to communicate complex investment issues clearly and effectively. The successful candidate should also be able to engage credibly with individuals from different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
The successful candidate will identify, analyse and manage investment and wider scheme risks, helping to design and implement appropriate interventions while contributing to the ongoing development of TPRs DC investment risk framework. The role also includes developing investment policy and guidance in emerging areas such as CDC, value for money, decumulation, consolidation, productive finance and climate change, alongside contributing to policy and supervisory frameworks for DC, CDC and Master Trust schemes. The role will involve supporting TPRs investment modelling capabilities, sharing investment knowledge across the organisation, providing training on investment developments and communicate TPRs approach to Master Trust supervision with both internal and external stakeholders.
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Enjoys applying investment knowledge to improve outcomes for pension savers.
- Likes analysing complex issues and turning evidence into practical recommendations.
- Values collaboration and working with colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds.
- Takes a thoughtful and detail-focused approach to problem solving and decision-making.
- Enjoys keeping up to date with developments in pensions, investment policy and regulation while continuing to develop their expertise.
Person specification
The role criteria
- Up-to-date knowledge of workplace pension fund investment gained through working with pension schemes, an in-house investment team or an asset manager.
- Experience of working with or within workplace pension schemes on investment issues.
- In-depth knowledge of DC investment strategy.
- Ability to produce high-quality analysis and deliver work to tight timescales.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with people at different levels of seniority.
- Experience of emerging policy areas, such as private markets.
