Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and authoritative Head of Fleet Engineering & Quality Assurance to take absolute ownership of our asset integrity, compliance, and hire fleet quality. In this pivotal senior role, you will be the final authority on plant reliability, safety, and performance before equipment reaches our clients.

You will lead our engineering teams, standardising and implementing rigorous Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and preventative maintenance regimes. This role requires a rare combination of strategic technical leadership and deep, practical engineering expertise spanning mechanical, diesel, and advanced electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & PDI Strategy: Design, implement, and standardise strict Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) policies across the entire hire fleet to guarantee a zero-defect dispatch culture.
  • Technical Authority: Act as the final technical sign-off and escalation point for complex diagnostic faults, safety certifications, and technical compliance issues.
  • Asset Management: Oversee the lifecycle, preventative maintenance, and repair programs for a diverse, specialist hire fleet.
  • Engineering Leadership: Manage, mentor, and upskill a team of workshop technicians, fostering a culture of precision, safety, and strict accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all workshop activities, equipment modifications, and testing comply with current LOLER, PUWER, and electrical safety regulations.

Fleet Portfolio Under Your Remit

  • You will be directly responsible for the operational readiness of a highly diverse, eco-conscious hire fleet, including: standard diesel welfare cabins; SOLAR and SOLAR hybrid welfare cabins/ drying rooms and toilet blocks; diesel powered tower lights; and a small fleet of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) / 4x4s.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering Qualifications: Formally qualified in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or higher).
  • Electrical Expertise: Strong, demonstrable experience in both low-voltage DC systems (common in ATVs and solar control circuits) and mains AC power distribution (generators and welfare hookups).
  • Industry Experience: Proven track record in a senior engineering or workshop management position within the plant hire, power generation, or commercial fleet sectors.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive practical experience diagnosing and maintaining diesel engines, hydraulics, alternative green energy components (solar/inverters), and mechanical drivetrains.
  • Leadership Track Record: Confident leader capable of enforcing high standards, managing KPIs, and driving workflow efficiency.
