Location: Leeds (this role requires travel between Leeds & London offices once per fortnight)

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Streaming department is responsible for the strategy, development, and operation of our digital streaming platform, delivering high-quality, on-demand content to audiences across multiple devices and markets.

The team drives innovation in user experience, content delivery, and platform technology, ensuring our streaming service remains competitive and aligned with evolving consumer expectations.

Working cross-functionally with technology, marketing, content and editorial, commercial and insights, the department is at the forefront of digital transformation enabling the business to reach new audiences and maximize engagement in a rapidly changing media landscape as part of our FAST Forward strategy.

JOB PURPOSE

The cross-platform designer will craft intuitive, engaging, and visually compelling experiences across mobile, desktop, and big-screen devices for our streaming business. This role ensures that design decisions are customer-led while balancing commercial objectives and business priorities.

Working closely with Product, Growth, Technology, Research and Insights teams, the designer will translate user needs and business goals into design solutions that elevate the viewer experience and drive growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design seamless, consistent experiences across mobile, desktop, and big-screen platforms, ensuring usability and accessibility standards are met.
  • Champion a customer-first approach, leveraging research and insights to inform design decisions while balancing commercial and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to translate requirements into high-quality design outputs, including wireframes, prototypes, and final UI assets.
  • Apply and evolve the C4 streaming design system to maintain consistency across platforms while introducing innovative solutions that enhance the experience.
  • Use data-driven insights and experimentation (A/B testing, MVT) to validate design hypotheses and optimise user journeys.
  • Advocate for design best practices and contribute to a culture of creativity and continuous improvement, being a facilitator of both.
  • Ensure designs align with brand guidelines, delivering experiences that reflect Channel 4’s remit and distinct brand.
  • Communicate design rationale clearly to stakeholders, influencing decisions and ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Champion accessibility standards across all product experiences, ensuring inclusivity and compliance with relevant guidelines.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party development partners to drive design decision efficiencies and ensure feasibility of ideas
  • Create high fidelity prototypes that enable both stakeholder engagement and user testing
  • Work with Head of Design to create and maintain key product and service design assets such as personas, service blueprints and UX guidelines
  • Work with stakeholders across other business areas such as Brand and Content to understand business outcomes and ideate how these can be supported and delivered through UX, facilitating Product discovery methods

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Proven experience designing for multiple platforms (mobile, desktop, big screen) within a digital product environment, ideally streaming or media.
  • Strong understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles including interaction patterns for OTT platforms.
  • High proficiency in design tools such as Figma.
  • Experience working within agile delivery frameworks and cross-functional squads.
  • Experienced in service design and discovery/ideation methodologies.
  • Ability to balance user-centric design with commercial and strategic priorities.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate design decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based design approaches.
  • Strong collaborator and facilitator
  • Skilled in prototyping and self-service user research tools such as Maze
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Media or entertainment industry experience.
  • Knowledge of motion design.
  • Exposure to experimentation frameworks and data-driven design optimization.
  • Interactive and coded prototyping




Basic salary per annum starting from
£51,844.00
