Job Purpose

Working on projects nationwide, we require a Civil Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of reinforced concrete works, ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, to specification, on programme, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Delivery

  • Supervise and coordinate all civils construction activities, including:
  • Pile head preparation
  • Formwork installation
  • Reinforcement fixing
  • Concrete pours and curing
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Manage site workmanship to ensure structural integrity, line, level, and finish meet project requirements.
  • Monitor progress against the programme and report delays or issues.
  • Complete the required weekly paperwork electronically and submit into the client and the office.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce site health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
  • Carry out toolbox talks and briefings related the works.
  • Ensure compliance with RAMS, permits to work, and lifting plans, along with industry wide legal requirements (E.g. PUWER, LOLER)
  • Identify hazards and implement control measures proactively.
  • Stop unsafe works and report incidents and near misses.

Quality Control

  • Ensure inspections and test plans (ITPs) are followed.
  • Coordinate inspections with engineers and clients.
  • Check reinforcement, formwork, and concrete before inspection sign-off.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including concrete pours, cube results, and inspection records.
  • Rectify defects promptly and prevent reoccurrence.

Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with:
  • Clients
  • Operational management
  • Plant operators
  • Subcontractors
  • Coordinate plant, labour, and materials to achieve efficient working.
  • Communicate clearly with the project team regarding progress, constraints, and site conditions.

Materials & Plant

  • Check delivery tickets and ensure materials meet specification.
  • Ensure efficient use of plant, equipment, and labour.
  • Plan lifts and concrete pours in coordination with logistics and batching teams.
  • Off hire unutilised equipment to ensure cost effective delivery

Required Skills & ExperienceEssential

  • Proven experience supervising RC civil works, preferably including Pile caps and falsework.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Reinforcement detailing
  • Formwork systems
  • Concrete technology and pouring methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Desirable

  • Experience on large-scale or complex civil engineering schemes.
  • Familiarity with inspection test plans (ITPs) and quality documentation.
  • Temporary works awareness (formwork and falsework).

Qualifications & CertificationsEssential

  • CSCS Supervisor or Gold Card
  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • Relevant civil engineering experience (trade background acceptable)

Desirable

  • First Aid at Work
  • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS)
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Civil Engineering / Construction Supervision
