About this Role

Wellspring Academy Trust is looking for a reliable and dedicated Cleaner to join our friendly team. This is an important role where you’ll help ensure our schools remain clean, safe and welcoming places for children, staff and visitors.

We currently have 2 fixed term roles available until 1st April 2027, working 10 hours per week, 43 weeks per year based at Joseph Norton Academy, Busker Lane, Scissett, Huddersfield, HD8 9JU*
*Please note, we are recruiting ahead of a significant expansion that will see the school move from Scissett to Deighton, therefore there is scope for the position to be made permanent.
Location:
The advert will show a location of County Way, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, as this is where our Central Head Office is based, but the role is at Joseph Norton Academy, Busker Lane, Scissett, Huddersfield, HD8 9JU.
Successful applicants will work as part of a team to ensure a high level of customer service, and adhere to procedures such as; health and safety, COSHH and risk assessments.
About the Role
As a Cleaner, you will carry out a full range of cleaning duties across teaching spaces, offices and communal areas, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Cleaning classrooms, offices and communal areas using appropriate equipment (mopping, sweeping, buffing, suction cleaning and machine scrubbing)
- Cleaning internal surfaces including walls, windows, worktops and sanitary facilities
- Emptying bins and removing waste safely
- Carrying out specialist cleaning tasks such as carpet cleaning, stain removal and descaling
- Replenishing hygiene supplies (soap, hand towels, toilet rolls)
- Conducting routine equipment safety checks and basic maintenance
- Reporting damage, faults or concerns promptly
- Locking and unlocking school premises and ensuring site security
- Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding standards at all times

- Is able to carry out physical tasks including lifting and climbing
- Follows instructions carefully and works to high standards
- Demonstrates integrity and professionalism
- Is flexible and willing to undertake relevant training

- Has previous cleaning experience (desirable, not essential — full training provided)
- No formal qualifications are required — we value attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn.
