Kitchen Assistant

Reports To: Chef

Job Overview

In addition to the duties outlined below, employees are required to undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management.

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the kitchen, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, assisting with food preparation and service, and promoting the wellbeing and safety of residents through effective teamwork and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Main Duties

  • Prepare foodstuffs as directed by the Chef.
  • Assist with kitchen duties and ensure cleaning schedules are completed.
  • Support the preparation and serving of meals in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with care staff and residents in a polite, respectful and person-centred manner.

Location

The service premises. Employees may be required to work at alternative company locations, with appropriate notice, where business needs require.

Working Hours

3-4 days over a 7-day period, as agreed with the Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties

Role-Specific Duties

The Kitchen Assistant will:

  • Assist the Chef in identifying stock requirements and ordering supplies in accordance with company procedures.
  • Operate an effective stock control system.
  • Ensure all equipment is used safely and in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and training received.
  • Report equipment faults immediately and remove unsafe equipment from use until repaired.
  • Prepare food items under the supervision of the Chef.
  • Assist with the serving and delivery of meals as required.
  • Understand residents' dietary requirements and communicate any concerns to the Chef.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and presentation.
  • Report and record all incidents and accidents in accordance with company procedures.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of individuals who use the service.

Working With Others

The Kitchen Assistant will:

  • Assist in the induction and support of new employees.
  • Develop positive and professional working relationships with colleagues.
  • Work proactively with the Chef to identify and complete required tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with care staff regarding residents' dietary needs.
  • Treat staff, residents and visitors with courtesy, dignity and respect at all times.

Other Duties

  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Promote person-centred care, dignity and respect when interacting with residents.
  • Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility.

Personal and Professional Development

The Kitchen Assistant will:

  • Attend all mandatory and statutory training.
  • Participate in supervision, appraisal and performance review processes.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and developing professional knowledge and skills.
  • Understand and comply with health and safety requirements relevant to the role.
  • Follow all applicable risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Expected hours: 33.0 – 44.0 per week
