We are seeking an experienced, proactive and highly adaptable Housekeeper to support a private HNW family at their beautiful estate in Berkshire.
Working closely with the existing Head Housekeeper / House Manager, the successful candidate will provide additional support across the household, ensuring the property is maintained to a high standard while assisting with laundry, cooking and general household duties.
This is a varied, hands-on role within a small household team, suited to someone who is efficient, confident and naturally proactive. The family has three young children and additional support is particularly valuable at weekends when the children are at home and family life can be busy.
The ideal candidate will be a genuine team player who is happy to turn their hand to whatever is required, respond positively to changing priorities and anticipate the family’s needs without requiring constant direction. A background in a combined Housekeeper/Nanny role would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the property to a high standard, ensuring all areas are clean, tidy and well presented
- Undertake hands-on housekeeping, including cleaning, tidying, laundry, ironing and the care of delicate garments
- Work collaboratively with the existing Head Housekeeper / House Manager to ensure the smooth running of the household
- Assist with everyday meal preparation, including preparing vegetables, cooking family dinners and following recipes
- Undertake batch cooking and prepare family favourites for future meals
- Provide additional support during busy periods, family gatherings and when guests are visiting
- Assist with practical childcare-related tasks, particularly at weekends when the children are at home
- Support the mother with additional household and family tasks as required
- Adapt priorities throughout the day and respond flexibly to the family’s changing requirements
- Work collaboratively with the wider household team, including the PA and other staff
- Take initiative and ensure tasks are completed efficiently without the need for constant supervision
- Be willing to work occasional additional hours when required, with time off in lieu agreed accordingly
- Maintain a professional, discreet and respectful approach at all times
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Housekeeper within a private household
- Excellent housekeeping skills, with strong attention to detail and high personal standards
- Confident managing laundry, caring for delicate fabrics and undertaking general household duties
- Comfortable with everyday family cooking and batch cooking
- A Nanny/Housekeeper background would be advantageous
- Highly organised, efficient and able to manage time effectively
- Proactive and confident, with the ability to work independently and anticipate requirements
- Flexible and willing to assist with tasks beyond traditional housekeeping duties
- Comfortable working in a busy family environment with young children
- A positive, practical and collaborative approach to working within a small team
- Full driving licence and own car essential
- Looking for a long-term position and committed to becoming a valued member of the household team
Personal Qualities
The successful candidate will be confident, energetic and highly adaptable, with a genuine willingness to help wherever needed. They will be comfortable working in a busy private household where priorities can change throughout the day and will approach this with a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
The family is looking for someone who can take ownership of their responsibilities without needing to be managed closely, while remaining responsive to the family’s preferences and direction. The ability to manage time effectively, work efficiently and switch between tasks without taking changes in priorities personally will be essential.
A natural team player, the ideal candidate will be approachable, discreet and resilient, with the confidence to work independently and the flexibility to support colleagues when required.
This is a demanding but rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on and takes pride in making a genuine contribution to family life. The family is looking for a committed individual who will integrate well into the household and build a long-term working relationship.
Working Pattern & Accommodation
The position offers 40 hours per week, worked on a structured and flexible rota designed to provide the family with seven-day household coverage.
The successful candidate will be required to work approximately two weekends per month, generally from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. The remaining hours will be arranged flexibly across the surrounding days, with the rota agreed in advance wherever possible. Days off in lieu will be provided as agreed.

- Structured working rota with advance notice wherever possible
- Time off in lieu for additional hours, as agreed
- Opportunity to secure a long-term position within an established private household
