Full job description

Job title: Cleaner

Main Function: Clean the College on a daily basis as part of a team

Responsible to: Cleaning Supervisor, Facilities Manager and General Manager

Main Duties:

To clean the area as directed by the Facilities Manager on a daily basis.

  • To undertake deep and high level cleans during at least each major school holiday or as needed.
  • To be physically fit to be able to carry out the necessary task that can be demanding.
  • Use of mops, vacuum cleaners, brooms, cloths, cleaning products on a daily basin and used in a safe manner following manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Use of cleaning products that are made available and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines ensuring all safety precautions are followed.
  • It is important that all areas of the College are cleaned thoroughly each day especially during the current Covid pandemic to try to avoid the spread of germs etc.
  • Classrooms, corridors, offices, toilets and general areas need to be cleaned daily. Certain areas such as Food Technology, dining hall, art room, DT workshop may require more specific cleaning.
  • The College needs to be presented in a clean and tidy state at the start of each day. It is important that each area is presented in this way and guidance followed (e.g. desks straightened, bins emptied, chairs tucked in).
  • To work as part of the College cleaning team and assist others in the team if required to enable the work to be completed.
  • Work in a safe and orderly manner and follow all required health and safety practices.
  • Report any defects with both cleaning equipment or with any item on site as soon as possible to the Facilities Manager or General Manager.
  • To have a high standard of workmanship to ensure the College is maintained to a high standard and to follow direction and requests that may be given by the management of the College.
  • To follow safeguarding rules and responsibilities that are needed to ensure the safety of the pupils.
  • To follow the rules and responsibilities of the College as stated in the Staff Handbook and the policies and procedures that are published.
  • To ensure the College is fully locked and alarmed as appropriate on a daily basis.

Hours of Work:

  • We require the post holder to work Monday - Friday between the hours of 5.00am and 8.00am and from 4.30pm to 6.30pm during the school term and at times to be confirmed during the school holidays.
  • To be available for cleaning on all Open Mornings (up to 3 per year on Saturdays) and Speech day (a Saturday in July).
  • The College offers 4 weeks paid holiday to be taken during the school holidays plus statutory holidays.
  • The rate of pay is £14.50 per hour (£10.50 plus antisocial hours enhancement of £4 per hour) and is paid in arrears on the last Thursday of each month.
  • The successful candidate is able to join the College pension scheme after three months service. The employer contribution is 5% and the minimum employee contribution is 3%. Further details will be made available nearer the time.
