Overview

Wern-wood is Neath Port Talbot's largest timber merchant, supplying trade professionals, contractors, and DIY customers across the region. Based at our busy yard in Briton Ferry, we are a growing business with a hands-on team committed to delivering high standards every day. As we continue to expand our operations, we are looking for a reliable, full-time Yard and Warehouse Cleaner to join us on a permanent basis.

We are seeking a diligent and physically capable individual who takes pride in their work and maintains high standards of cleanliness without being asked twice. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors in a working timber yard environment, as well as maintaining clean and presentable indoor spaces including our warehouse, offices, and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Keep the timber yard clean, tidy, and presentable at all times — including sweeping, picking up offcuts and debris, and hand-organising timber to ensure the yard looks professional.
• Carry out external cleaning duties including jet washing hard surfaces, paths, and yard areas to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Use a strimmer to keep external areas neat and tidy, including grass verges and edges around the yard.
• Maintain the external facade of all buildings, ensuring the site presents a professional appearance at all times.
• Assist with putting deliveries away in the warehouse and stacking timber correctly and safely when required.
• Clean and sanitise staff toilet facilities to a consistently high standard.
• Clean and maintain the office areas, ensuring a tidy and professional working environment.
• Clean and tidy the office kitchen, including surfaces, appliances, and communal areas.
• Clean company delivery vehicles regularly, keeping them presentable and representing the business well.
• Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or stock concerns to the appropriate member of the team.
• Work collaboratively with yard and office staff to maintain standards across the whole site.

Requirements

• Previous cleaning experience is required — commercial, industrial, or yard-based cleaning experience is preferred; any relevant background will be considered.
• Physical fitness and the ability to carry out manual tasks, including lifting, prolonged standing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Reliable, punctual, and consistent — someone the team can count on day to day.
• Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to keeping standards high.
• A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to get stuck in as part of a small, busy team.
• Ability to manage your own time and prioritise tasks effectively throughout the working day.

• Hours: Mon–Fri 8:00am–4:30pm
• Contract: Full-time, permanent
