Full job description

As an Early Years Kitchen Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations to ensure that our children receive healthy, delicious, and age-appropriate meals. This position involves working closely with our kitchen staff for two days a week, with additional lunch cover required for the remaining three days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks for children, following prescribed dietary requirements and menus.
  • Ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment at all times, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Support the kitchen team in inventory management, including receiving deliveries and organising supplies.
  • Help in maintaining kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring they are clean and in good condition.
  • Provide lunch cover, assisting with the setup, serving, and cleanup of daily meals.
  • Work closely with the rest of the team to promote a positive and nurturing environment for the children.
  • Cover the staff lunches within the rooms to ensure ratio is maintained.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen assistant role, preferably within a childcare or educational setting, is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine interest in nutrition and providing healthy meals for young children.
  • Knowledge of basic food hygiene and safety practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • A positive, caring attitude and a passion for working in early childhood education.
  • Must pass a background check.
