The Opportunity

We are looking for a driven and curious Biomedical Scientist to join our growing Blood Sciences laboratory at entry level. This is a fantastic opportunity to establish your career within a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary pathology environment where your development is taken seriously from day one.

You will work alongside our Senior BMS team, gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of blood science disciplines. If you are ambitious, detail-oriented, and ready to make an impact early in your career - we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

  • Perform and report a range of routine blood science tests including haematology, biochemistry, and coagulation assays
  • Accession, process, and track samples in line with chain-of-custody and cold chain requirements
  • Operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting on laboratory analysers
  • Validate and authorise results within your scope of competency under senior supervision

Quality & Compliance

  • Work in accordance with current SOPs, UKAS/ISO 15189 standards, and laboratory quality systems
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance (IQA/EQA) programmes
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with regulatory requirements
  • Report non-conformances, near misses, and any quality concerns promptly to senior staff

Team & Development

  • Collaborate closely with the Senior BMS team to support smooth daily operations
  • Engage actively in training, competency assessments, and CPD activities
  • Support the development of laboratory processes and contribute ideas for continuous improvement
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive, high-performance culture

Requirements

Essential

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (BMS)
  • Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent HCPC-approved qualification
  • Genuine passion for blood sciences and a strong desire to grow within a laboratory setting
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a methodical and structured approach to work
  • Good working knowledge of laboratory best practices and health & safety standards
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and clinical staff
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small, collaborative team
  • Highly organised and structured mind with strong critical thinking skills and ability to analyse outcomes scientifically
  • Strong understanding of laboratory best practices, QHSE systems, and regulatory frameworks (UKAS, ISO 15189, CPA)
  • Proficiency with LIMS platforms and MS Office (particularly Excel for data management and QC trending) and AI tools

Desirable

  • Experience with analysers from Werfen, Beckman Coulter, Sebia, Cepheid, or Alifax.
  • Practical experience in a haematology, biochemistry, or coagulation laboratory environment (placement, bank, or post-qualification)
  • Familiarity with LIMS platforms and basic data entry or result management
  • Exposure to or awareness of UKAS, ISO 15189, or CPA accreditation standards
  • Interest in digital laboratory workflows, middleware, or AI-assisted diagnostics
