Holmwood House is committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities to our pupils. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sports Coaches to join our team.
Job title: Sports Coach
Reporting to: Head of PE
Start date: September 2026
Hours: Monday and Friday 1.30 to 4.00; Tuesday 1.30 to 4.00; Wednesday 1.00 to 4.00 (possibly later if matches)
Pay according to experience and qualifications.
Pupil age bracket: Years 3 to 8 - in different sessions.
Job specification
Skill Development
- Design and implement age-appropriate training sessions for hockey (main focus), netball, and cricket.
- Focus on developing fundamental skills for each sport, examples being: hitting, bowling, throwing, passing, shooting, carrying the ball, tackling, dribbling, teamwork, and strategic game understanding.
- Provide individualised coaching to address the specific needs and abilities of each pupil.
Team Management
- Organise and lead regular team practices, ensuring a balance between skill development and team cohesion.
- Foster positive and inclusive team cultures that encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, enjoyment of competition, and respect for opponents.
- Manage team selection with the PE staff, ensuring fair opportunities for all pupils to participate and contribute.
- Manage any minor injuries or concerns with the duty first aider.
Game Umpiring
- Officiate hockey, netball and cricket games during school competitions and events.
- Stay updated on the rules and regulations of each sport, ensuring a fair and safe playing environment.
- Provide constructive feedback to pupils on their performance during games, contributing to their overall development.
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain open and effective communication with pupils, parents, and school PE staff regarding training, game fixtures, and overall team progress.
- Collaborate with other coaches and PE staff to develop the games programme within the school's broader educational objectives.
Pupil Safeguarding and Development
- Provide a safe learning environment that is inclusive and ensures that the needs of all pupils will be safeguarded.
- Act as a positive role model, instilling values such as discipline, dedication, and resilience in student athletes.
- Provide mentorship and support to pupils, fostering their personal growth on and off the sports field.

Interviews

Conditional offer of appointment
Your employment with the school will be subject to the school being satisfied with the following:

142 of the Education Act 2002 which renders you unable or unsuitable to work at the
School;
● verification of your medical fitness;
● verification of qualifications and identity;

● the two references received; and
● such other pre-employment checks as the School is required to complete in accordance with its statutory or regulatory obligations including such other overseas checks as necessary

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
As the school meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, any offer of employment will be subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before the appointment is confirmed.
Candidates attending an interview are required to provide three forms of ID from the list below.
● Passport
● UK driving licence
● A UK Birth or adoption certificate
● EU photo identity card
● A utility bill, bank / building society or credit card statement that is less than three months old and which shows your name and current home address This must be an original document and cannot be printed from the internet.
Please note that originals of the above are necessary. Photocopies or certified copies are not sufficient. In the event that you are unsuccessful please be assured that photocopies of documents taken by the school will be destroyed immediately.
