Assistant Manager for Cafe / Bar / Restaurant / Music Venue

The Canteen is an award-winning restaurant, vibrant bar and live performance venue all in one. For over 16 years we have established ourselves as an independent beating heart of the Bristol scene, delivering high quality casual veggie food, local booze, music 7 nights a week, arts, culture & a cherished community space.

We're looking for an Assistant Manager to come help lead our lovely team. To keep growing our reputation in the local food scene and our profile as one of Bristol’s only venues offering free music 7 nights a week. Juggling admin shifts, busy food services, artist liaison, team leadership and a thriving cafe/bar set to a high standard, yet with a laid back, professional atmosphere. Someone who is able to assist the general manager in all aspects of the business.

Job Key Details

  • 40 working week promoting a healthy work/life balance and a mix of day & night shifts. Monday-Sunday.
  • 28 days holiday per annum
  • up to £30.5k salary, depending on experience

Candidate Requirements

  • A people person, with a great personality and keen eye for detail.
  • Ability training the team in all areas of the business and in managing the FOH team.
  • Willingness to get stuck in and lead by example.
  • Passion or understanding for sustainability & championing local.
  • Strong food knowledge, knowledge of vegetarian food is not vital but helpful.
  • Strong communication skills, from the chefs through to the guests.
  • A great delegator.
  • Fully responsible for the venue in absence of the GM
  • Confidently run both busy food services & buzzing music nights, orchestrate your team while also developing key business areas.
  • Good administrative skills, assisting in ordering, cash/time sheets, roterings & booking management. All keyholder responsibilities.
  • Experience in maintaining solid wet GPs and able to demonstrate responsibility for the venue's stock. Good knowledge of beers, cocktails & coffees and current trends.
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar fast paced role.
