Full job description

Kiss the Hippo is looking for a skilled, proactive Coffee Equipment Technician to join our team.

This is a hands-on role supporting our wholesale customers, London cafés and roastery. You’ll be responsible for keeping coffee equipment performing at its best — from preventative maintenance and fault diagnosis to repairs, installations and commissioning.

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just respond to breakdowns, but actively prevents them. You’ll take ownership of equipment performance, build strong relationships with customers and café teams, and help us develop a first-class in-house technical capability.

What You’ll Be Doing: Service, Maintenance & Repairs

  • Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance across wholesale customer sites, Kiss the Hippo cafés and our roastery.
  • Service, maintain and repair commercial espresso machines, grinders and associated coffee equipment.
  • Diagnose faults quickly and complete repairs, call-outs and workshop testing.
  • Replace filters, burrs and other service parts as required.
  • Maintain high technical, operational and safety standards.
  • Minimise equipment downtime through effective diagnosis, planning and preventative maintenance.

Installation & Commissioning

  • Install and commission new coffee equipment at customer and Kiss the Hippo sites.
  • Configure, test and prepare equipment for operation.
  • Support equipment moves, upgrades and replacements.
  • Work closely with our Training & Quality team to ensure equipment is set up to deliver excellent coffee.
  • Provide clear technical guidance to customers and café teams.

Customer & Café Support

  • Build strong relationships with wholesale customers and our internal café teams.
  • Provide professional, practical technical advice and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate proactively about servicing, repairs and expected completion times.
  • Keep customers and colleagues informed throughout technical work.
  • Support equipment-related training where required.
  • Represent Kiss the Hippo professionally at every customer and café visit.

Proactive Equipment Management

A key part of this role is preventing problems before they happen.

You’ll:

  • Maintain a forward servicing and preventative-maintenance schedule.
  • Monitor equipment condition and performance.
  • Identify recurring faults and develop preventative solutions.
  • Spot equipment that may require replacement, upgrading or improvement.
  • Look for opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and coffee quality.
  • Reduce emergency call-outs and downtime through better planning.

Workshop, Systems & Stock

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, servicing, repairs and parts.
  • Keep individual equipment histories up to date.
  • Help develop Kiss the Hippo’s technical workshop at our roastery.
  • Keep the workshop, tools and technical equipment organised and well maintained.
  • Maintain appropriate stocks of key spare parts and consumables.
  • Help improve our technical systems, processes and ways of working.

Developing Our Technical Capability

We want this role to grow alongside the business.

You’ll be encouraged to undertake manufacturer training and technical certifications, stay current with developments in commercial coffee equipment and build your technical knowledge over time.

You’ll also play an important role in developing Kiss the Hippo’s in-house technical capability, sharing knowledge across the business and reducing our reliance on external technicians where it makes sense.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Technically capable and confident working with commercial coffee equipment.
  • Strong at fault-finding and practical problem-solving.
  • Proactive and preventative rather than purely reactive.
  • Organised and able to manage servicing schedules, records and parts.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technical issues.
  • Professional and confident when dealing directly with customers.
  • A clear communicator who keeps people informed.
  • Interested in developing their technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Passionate about delivering a reliable, high-quality service.

Experience servicing commercial espresso machines and grinders is highly desirable.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Wholesale customers receiving fast, reliable and professional technical support.
  • Café and roastery equipment consistently maintained to a high standard.
  • Fewer breakdowns and reduced equipment downtime.
  • Preventative maintenance completed on schedule.
  • Faults diagnosed and repaired efficiently.
  • Accurate and useful equipment and service records.
  • Strong relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Reduced reliance on external technicians.
  • A growing and increasingly capable in-house technical workshop.
  • Problems, improvements and opportunities being identified before they become urgent.

Reporting & Coordination

The Coffee Equipment Technician sits within the wider Wholesale Team, with day-to-day work coordinated through the wholesale team’s main contact.

Wholesale customer requirements will be the primary focus, alongside technical support for Kiss the Hippo cafés and our roastery.

This is an opportunity to take real ownership of the technical side of a growing specialty coffee business and help shape how we support our customers and equipment as we continue to expand.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Free or subsidised travel
  • Store discount

Work Location: In person
