Full job description

Post Title: Sixth Form Study & Progress Coordinator

Terms & Tenure: Grade SC4 – points 7-11, 37 hours per week, term time only + 5 TEDs

The salary is paid at grade SC4, points 7 – 11 (£26,403 - £28,142 full time equivalent). The actual term time only starting salary will be £23,192 pa, which may rise by increments to £24,720 pa. Pay award pending.

Line Manager: Head of Sixth Form

Purpose of the Role

To support sixth form learners in achieving academic success by managing supervised study provision, promoting independent learning skills, monitoring attendance, and supporting university application processes. The role focuses on improving student outcomes through structured intervention, pastoral support, and effective administrative systems.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervised Study Room Management

  • Manage and oversee a structured supervised study facility for sixth form learners.
  • Maintain a calm, productive, and academically focused working environment.
  • Establish and enforce clear expectations for behaviour and independent study.
  • Track student use of the study room and identify patterns in engagement.
  • Provide targeted support to students who require additional structure or motivation.

2. Learner Intervention & Skills Development

  • Deliver timely interventions to support students with:

Organisation and study habits

Time management

Revision techniques

Independent learning strategies

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for learners identified as at risk of underachievement.
  • Build students' confidence, resilience, and self-esteem through positive mentoring and guidance.

3. Attendance Monitoring & Communication

  • Monitor sixth form attendance data regularly using school systems.
  • Identify students whose attendance falls below expected levels.
  • Communicate proactively with students and parents/carers via email/phone to address concerns.
  • Work with pastoral and leadership teams to implement attendance improvement plans.
  • Track and report attendance trends and interventions.

4. UCAS & Post-18 Progression Support

  • Support the administration and coordination of UCAS applications.
  • Monitor student progress against UCAS deadlines and milestones.
  • Provide guidance on personal statements, including proofreading and feedback.
  • Proofread staff references to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Support students with progression planning (university, apprenticeships, employment) and signposting to our independent careers service.

Additional Responsibilities

5. Academic Progress Tracking

  • Liaise with teaching and pastoral staff to identify students requiring academic support.
  • Maintain simple tracking systems to monitor progress and interventions.
  • Support action planning for underperforming students.

6. Study Skills Programme Development

  • Implement the structured study skills programme across the sixth form.
  • Develop resources (guides, templates, planners) to support independent learning.

7. Mentoring & Student Support

  • Act as a key contact for identified students needing additional guidance.
  • Offer informal mentoring and wellbeing check-ins.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services when necessary.

8. Parental Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Provide updates on attendance, progress, and areas for improvement.
  • Support communication strategies that promote student accountability.

9. Contribution to Sixth Form Development

  • Contribute ideas to improve sixth form provision, student engagement, and outcomes.
  • Support enrichment opportunities that develop wider student skills (e.g., employability, study habits).
  • Assist with implementation of policies relating to independent study and attendance.

General and review

To understand and be prepared to support the ethos of the school by:

- Promoting good relationships with students, parents, colleagues, governors, LA and agency staff and visitors to the school.

- Promoting high standards of student behaviour inside the classroom and around the school generally, following the school’s behaviour policy.

- Promoting high standards of personal presentation and conduct, including being punctual and using social network media appropriately.

- Completing training in the relevant areas to meet all safeguarding and health and safety standards as advised by CWLC and government policy.

- Being aware of all matters of health and safety related to the working environment.
