Trainee Chef

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Chef to join our team at Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa, one of Darwin Escapes' stunning holiday destinations. This is a permanent part-time position working 25 hours per week, including weekends. On-site accommodation may also be available, subject to availability, making this an ideal opportunity for candidates looking to relocate.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their culinary career within a professional kitchen environment. Working closely with the Head Chef and wider kitchen team, you will support the day-to-day operation of the kitchen while learning essential cooking techniques, food preparation skills, and kitchen procedures.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with a passion for food, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to maintaining high standards. You will gain valuable experience across a range of kitchen duties while developing the knowledge and skills needed to progress within the hospitality industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of ingredients and basic food preparation tasks.
  • Prepare and cook simple dishes under the guidance of senior kitchen team members.
  • Support the Head Chef and wider kitchen team with the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards at all times.
  • Assist with stock rotation, storage, and organisation of ingredients and supplies.
  • Help receive and store deliveries in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure workstations are kept clean, organised, and ready for service.
  • Support the team during busy service periods while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Learn and follow company food specifications and presentation standards.
  • Assist with cleaning duties and general kitchen maintenance as required.

  • Previous kitchen experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for food and a desire to develop a career in hospitality.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices.

Additional Information

This role will require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays in line with business needs.

This role is based within a busy kitchen environment and will involve standing for extended periods. The role may also involve lifting or moving kitchen equipment and supplies where required.
