Full job description

Clinical Support Worker (various Lambeth inpatient wards -NDBH)

We welcome enthusiastic individuals who are looking to start or develop a rewarding career in healthcare.

We are seeking motivated people to work across our inpatient wards and specialist services at Denmark Hill (NDBH) . Previous healthcare experience is welcomed but not essential. What matters most is that you are compassionate, caring, and committed to supporting service users and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes.

What we are looking for:
A caring, compassionate, and person-centred approach

Enthusiasm and a positive attitude

A commitment to delivering high-quality care

A willingness to learn, develop, and undertake training

An understanding of, or interest in, trauma-informed and recovery-focused care

Every day, you will make a meaningful difference to the lives of the people we support by delivering high-quality care alongside a multidisciplinary team.

Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Assistant Practitioner, or Nursing Associate, you will support the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will contribute to individuals' physical, psychological, social, recreational, and spiritual wellbeing through therapeutic engagement, promoting recovery, independence, and positive outcomes. You will help create a safe and supportive environment that reflects trauma-informed, person-centred principles and respond appropriately to any concerns that arise.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners.

SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. By coming to work at SLaM, you will gain experience of being part of an organisation with a rich history and international reputation in mental health care. You will have access to professional development and learning opportunities, and have the chance to work alongside people who are world leaders in their field.

Working under the direct supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse, Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Assistant Practitioner, or Nursing Associate, you will:

Deliver high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care, ensuring that the fundamental needs of service users are met, including nutrition, hydration, personal hygiene, comfort, emotional wellbeing, and social support.

Build positive therapeutic relationships through meaningful one-to-one engagement, using a trauma-informed, recovery-focused, and non-judgemental approach that promotes trust, safety, and dignity.

Recognise and value each service user as an individual, respecting their rights, cultural background, diversity, and personal preferences, while maintaining dignity and promoting inclusion at all times.

Support families and carers, where appropriate, recognising their important role in recovery, communication, and ongoing care planning.

Undertake and accurately record clinical observations, including physical health monitoring and vital signs, escalating concerns promptly to a Registered Nurse or senior clinician in line with local procedures.

Recognise and report any changes in a service user's physical or mental health, behaviour, or wellbeing, ensuring timely intervention and support.

Promote recovery and independence by encouraging service users to participate in therapeutic activities, community meetings, health-promoting interventions, and opportunities that support their individual goals and wellbeing.

Contribute to creating a safe, caring, and therapeutic ward environment where service users feel respected, supported, and empowered in their recovery journey.
