Catering Assistant - Sainsbury's Taste Café, Barnstaple

Location: Sainsbury's Taste Café, Roundswell Business Park, Gratton Way, Roundswell, Barnstaple, EX31 3NH
Pay Rate: £12.75 per hour
Hours: 15-25 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Variable shifts, including weekends and peak trading periods

About the Role

We're looking for enthusiastic and customer-focused Catering Assistants to join the team at Sainsbury's Taste Café in Barnstaple.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced hospitality environment and take pride in delivering excellent customer service. As a Catering Assistant, you'll play an important role in ensuring customers receive a warm welcome, great food, and an enjoyable café experience.

You'll support the day-to-day operation of the café by preparing and serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness standards, and helping create a positive environment for both customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food and drinks in line with company standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere.
• Operate tills and handle customer transactions accurately.
• Replenish food displays and monitor product availability.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the café.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures at all times.
• Assist with stock rotation and waste management.
• Support colleagues during busy periods to ensure efficient service.
• Help with opening and closing duties as required.
• Work as part of a team to achieve café performance targets.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in hospitality, catering, retail, or a customer-facing role is beneficial but not essential.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
• Willingness to learn and follow company procedures.
• Flexible approach to working a variety of shifts, including weekends.
• Understanding of food hygiene practices is desirable.
