Staff Software Engineer

About You:

Are you the engineer other engineers trust when the stakes are highest? Do you thrive on solving complex technical challenges, setting technical direction and helping teams deliver scalable, reliable systems that support business growth? Are you as comfortable reviewing architecture and leading incident response as you are writing production code? If you bring a blend of technical excellence, leadership and a builder mentality, DFYNE might be exactly where you belong.

About DFYNE:

A picture paints a thousand words… and we’re sure you don’t want to sit here reading a corporate essay about who we are. Honestly, how can you really get under the skin of DFYNE from a few lines on a screen? So instead, go have a look for yourself — see what we’re about, what we stand for, and why people love us: www.dfyne.com.

About the role — DFYNE Your Career:

Before we get into the nuts and bolts, let me introduce myself. I’m Bruce, Head of Development at DFYNE, and I’m looking for someone who will become the most senior individual contributor within our engineering team. As our Staff Software Engineer, you will partner closely with me to shape architecture, engineering standards and technical direction while remaining hands-on in the design, delivery and operation of critical systems.

DFYNE has grown rapidly, and we now need a senior technical leader who can help us scale our engineering capability, improve software quality and strengthen operational excellence. You’ll influence how we build software across the business, mentor engineers, lead through expertise rather than hierarchy and help ensure our technology can support the next phase of DFYNE’s growth.

Attitude:

  • Technical leadership
  • Builder mentality
  • Ownership mindset
  • Calm command
  • Continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and expert guidance across DFYNE’s engineering teams.
  • Support the Head of Development in establishing and maintaining engineering standards,
  • Drive mandatory code review, release discipline and deployment quality controls.
  • Lead technical problem-solving across critical business systems.
  • Own and influence architecture and technical design decisions across multiple platforms
  • Lead incident response activity, ensure corrective actions address root causes over individual failures.
  • Pair with engineers across critical systems to reduce single points of failure.
  • Mentor and develop engineers in progressing towards senior-level responsibilities.
  • Partner with Product, Operations and Engineering teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.
  • Identify and address technical debt, operational risk and scalability constraints before they impact business performance.
  • Contribute hands-on code where required.
  • Champion engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
  • Experience owning and operating production distributed systems end-to-end.
  • Strong TypeScript or Python expertise.
  • Deep Google Cloud Platform experience, or equivalent cloud platform knowledge.
  • Proven track record of designing, building and operating large-scale systems.
  • Improving engineering standards, quality processes or software delivery practices.
  • Experience leading incident response and writing post-incident reviews.
  • Excellent system design and architecture capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven mentoring and technical leadership experience.
  • Experience influencing technical decisions across multiple teams or business functions.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on engineering delivery.

Nice to Have:

  • E-commerce, logistics or payments experience.
  • Terraform and Infrastructure as Code expertise.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience introducing AI-assisted development workflows safely.

So, what’s in it for you?:

If you’ve made it this far down without being put off — brilliant. I’d genuinely love to hear from you. Beyond joining a work family and a genuinely great place to build your career, you’ll have the opportunity to influence technology across one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies, shape engineering standards from the ground up and work alongside a team eager to learn and improve.

You’ll be part of a high challenge; high reward culture.

What will aid a successful application with DFYNE:

  • Cover letter
  • Completed questionnaire

Salary starting from £85K per year.
