Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled ICT Technician to join our technology support team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role prodominantly providing on-site support for a local Independent School.

During school term time (32 weeks), you will be positioned at a local Independent School we support, providing technical assistance to maintain ICT infrastructure, hardware and software in order to support the delivery of the curriculum and facilitate dependable services from all ICT based school systems. Outside of school term time, the role moves to our office located in Baston, supporting small businesses through our IT support helpdesk.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of IT systems, providing technical support to users, and ensuring the smooth operation of network and hardware infrastructure. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your expertise in computer networking, operating systems, and hardware support within a dynamic organisational environment.

This role is permanent, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:15am to 5:15pm. The role will be working all year round (52 weeks per year).

Duties

  • Provide desktop support and resolve hardware and software issues across various operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Manage and maintain computer networks, including LAN, VPN, DNS, TCP/IP, and firewall configurations.
  • Support and administer Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, SCCM, and BMC Remedy.
  • Troubleshoot software problems related to Microsoft Office applications, specialised business software, and general applications.
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware components.
  • Monitor network security protocols and assist in implementing security measures such as firewalls and VPNs.
  • Utilise ServiceNow and Jira for ticket management and issue tracking.
  • Provide help desk support by addressing user queries promptly through effective communication skills.
  • Document procedures and maintain accurate records of all technical activities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in IT support or a similar role with a strong understanding of computer networking concepts such as LAN, WAN, DNS, TCP/IP protocols.
  • Proficiency in managing Windows Server environments, Active Directory, SCCM, Linux systems, and macOS.
  • Familiarity with hardware components including computers, routers, switches, firewalls, and peripherals.
  • Experience with troubleshooting software issues within Microsoft Office suite and other enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of security practices including VPNs, firewalls, and network analysis tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
  • Analytical skills for diagnosing complex technical problems efficiently.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • At least 1 year of IT-related work experience (required)
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft 365 / Office 365
  • Strong understanding of Windows desktop and Windows Server environments
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and organisational ability
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A full, clean UK driving licence (required)
  • Microsoft certification (preferred)
  • Willingness to undergo a full DBS check
