Are you analytical, detail-oriented, and interested in how data helps organisations make informed decisions?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Technician Apprentice to join the team at one of the UK's most iconic science and technology sites in Cheshire.

This role is ideal for a school or college leaver looking to develop practical data skills while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting critical business systems, working with data, creating reports, and helping to ensure information remains accurate, secure, and useful across the organisation.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you'll be supported by experienced professionals who will help you build both technical expertise and confidence in a collaborative and innovative environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Working within a specialist systems team, you'll gain experience across a range of data and business support functions, including:

  • Maintaining and updating business-critical data across multiple systems
  • Monitoring support requests and assisting users with system-related queries
  • Creating, running and modifying SQL queries and reports
  • Supporting data quality, accuracy and integrity initiatives
  • Assisting with routine system administration tasks
  • Producing and updating documentation and user guides
  • Supporting projects involving data analysis, reporting and automation
  • Assisting with system testing and upgrades
  • Helping identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency
  • Ensuring sensitive information is handled securely and appropriately

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 3/D or above (or equivalent)
  • Good IT skills and confidence using computers
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • An interest in data analysis, databases or reporting
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Basic understanding of SQL or databases
  • Awareness of cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
  • Interest in how data supports business operations and decision-making
