Full job description

Abbotsford Residential Care Home is recruiting an Ancillary Staff to join our kitchen and House keeping Team in Pinner HA5 3AZ. The care home, 28 residents, cares for elderly persons living with dementia.

THE ROLE

Kitchen Assistant

We can offer full time per week over a seven-day rota. The shifts are 07:00 to 18:30.

· You will serve a range of dishes and follow dietary guidelines for service users, preparing breakfast / lunch / supper.

· You will complete associated kitchen paperwork.

· You will be responsible for the organisation and cleanliness of the kitchen, food store, fridges, and freezers.

House Keeping

Scope of responsibility:

1. To provide high standard of cleanliness in the Home

2. To respect the service users by putting their things in order after cleaning their rooms

3. To respect the service user’s right to privacy, dignity and independence

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE

Kitchen Assistant

· Breakfast preparation and service.

· Morning beverage preparation and service.

· Lunch preparation and service.

· Afternoon beverage preparation and service.

· Supper preparation and service.

· Cleaning kitchen equipment (pots, pans, kitchen utensils, ovens, work surfaces etc).

· Packing away deliveries and stock rotation.

· Other duties as directed by the manager.

House Keeping

Principal Duties

1. Clean all designated areas using appropriate cleaning materials and equipment

2. Vacuum clean all communal, underneath bed, carpeted areas, including rooms, corridors and staircase on a daily basis

3. Clean hand basin and toilets daily including surrounding tiles

4. Wipe all furniture with furniture polish including banisters

5. Clean all mirrors and glasses as necessary

6. Clean bathroom floor, laundry floor and lift room daily, using separate mops

7. Dust all dining chairs, worktops and window sills, including radiator covers everyday

8. Fill toilet rolls and hand towels everyday and as necessary

9. Empty bins in all rooms, toilets, communal areas, laundry and toilet and replace bin liners

10. Water flowers and plants both in the service users’ bedrooms, corridor and communal areas

11. Towels and flannels must be tidily placed in the areas provided

12. Clean as necessary any stains on chairs caused by spillage

13. Arrange items of furniture etc. to prevent accidents and ease of handling for all service users

14. Sweep and mop lino floors using a disinfectant solution and colour coded mop and bucket

15. Scrub lino floor according to work schedule

MISCELLANEOUS

1. Report defects to the manager to maintain the quality standards provided by the Home

2. Assist manager with stock control and ordering of cleaning materials, ensuring that expenditure remains within set budget

3. Be sure to keep the vacuum wire out of the way in order to avoid people from tripping

4. Store all cleaning substances in the locked COSHH cupboard

5. Read and be familiar with Policy and Procedure of the Home

6. Take part in fire drills and manual handling lectures/ including all mandatory training

7. Use gloves and aprons, especially when using cleaning agents

8. When finished work, keep all cleaning equipment locked in the COSHH cupboard.

CLEANING DUTIES

Daily

· Empty bin, vacuum clean

· Vacuum clean and polish lounge, dining area, conservatory and hall

· Thoroughly clean service user’s toilet

BEDROOM

· Dust all furniture i.e. bedside tables, window sills, dressing tables etc.

· Wipe over –bed tables

· Polish glass

· Make sure chair seats are clean

· Use multi-purpose cleaner to clean baths, sinks and wet rooms

· Thoroughly clean and disinfect toilet bowls and seats

· Sweep and wash bathroom floors

· Vacuum floor

· Wipe over bedroom and bathroom doors

· Clean light switched and wall

· Put toilet rolls in each bathroom

· Wipe over lift, polish glass. Clean floors and doors

· Clean bathroom mats and seat covers

· Wash out dusters at the end of the day and put to dry for next day.

Weekly

· Soak mop head in bleach and disinfect overnight

· Bathroom cabinets to be cleaned

· Dust top of wardrobes

· Clean inside windows of the conservatory area

· Fridays: empty vacuum cleaner bag.

Monthly

Scrub floors

Pull all bedroom furniture from wall (ask for help). Wipe skirting and vacuum behind furniture.

All bins to be washed, including the green dustbin in the front of the building.

Disinfect afterwards.

3 monthly

· Take down all net curtains and wash

· Clean windows before replacing nets.

· Replace all toilet brush

A-Z DISINFECTION POLICY

Bath (shower) – use cream cleanser or detergent

Bedpans – wash in hot water and detergent

Bowls – use detergent – rinse and dry

Commodes – ensure seat, pan and arm rest are clean before service user use. Wash with hot water and detergent

Drains – clean and clear regularly

Flower vases – change water daily

Mattresses – wipe plastic cover with hot water and detergent.

After infected service users, use hypochlorite solution.

Do not disinfect unnecessarily as this damages the mattress cover.

Razor – electric – for personal use only

Toilet – brush the pan using lavatory cleaner

Toilet seat– wash with detergent and dry

Urinals – soak in descaler. Clean with hot water weekly

Wash basins – use multi purpose cleaner
