Project Manager – Construction & Development

Location: Sheffield (Initial Project) with future projects across the North West

Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 DOE

Build More Than Projects. Help Build Our Construction & Developments Division.

Higher End Construction Ltd is an established principal contractor delivering high-quality construction, refurbishment and social housing projects across the North West.

As part of our continued growth, we're investing in our Construction & Developments division and are looking to recruit an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of our development projects from inception through to completion.

This is an opportunity to become a key member of our management team and play a major role in the future growth of the business.

Your First Project

Your first responsibility will be managing the conversion of a former theatre in Sheffield into 9 supported living apartments and a staff apartment.

Planning permission has been granted and the project includes demolition, structural alterations, new drainage and utility installations, internal fit-out, external works and final handover to our Supported Living Partner.

Our head office is based in Haydock, however this role will initially be site-based in Sheffield, working from our fully equipped site office and welfare facilities.

You'll be trusted to take full ownership of the day-to-day delivery of the project while working closely with the Director through regular progress meetings.

As this project progresses, you'll have the opportunity to oversee further developments across the North West as our construction portfolio continues to grow.

The Role

You'll be responsible for delivering projects safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing projects from mobilisation through to completion
  • Producing and maintaining construction programmes
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
  • Managing site logistics and sequencing of works
  • Liaising with Building Control, Architects, Structural Engineers and utility providers
  • Procuring materials and coordinating deliveries
  • Monitoring quality and carrying out regular site inspections
  • Managing Health & Safety and ensuring full compliance
  • Producing weekly progress reports for the Directors
  • Managing project costs, variations and programme updates
  • Chairing site meetings
  • Delivering a successful practical completion and handover

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and delivering high-quality construction projects.

You may already be an experienced Project Manager or an ambitious Senior Site Manager looking to take the next step in your career.

You'll be organised, commercially aware and confident leading people, programmes and subcontractors with minimal supervision.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering construction projects from start to completion
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS Black Card
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and Building Regulations
  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and direct labour independently
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing variations and project costs

Desirable

  • Experience delivering refurbishment or conversion projects
  • Experience managing apartment or residential developments
  • Knowledge of JCT Contracts

What's on Offer

  • £55,000–£65,000 DOE
  • Company vehicle
  • Fuel card
  • Company laptop and mobile phone
  • Pension scheme
  • Long-term career progression
  • Opportunity to lead multiple construction projects as the business grows
  • Be part of an ambitious and expanding contractor

Why Higher End Construction?

We're not looking for someone to simply manage one site.

We're looking for someone who wants to become part of our long-term journey.

Our ambition is to build a dedicated Construction & Developments division delivering apartment conversions, supported living schemes, commercial refurbishments and new-build projects across the North West.

If you're looking for genuine responsibility, autonomy and the opportunity to grow into a senior leadership role within an ambitious business, we'd love to hear from you.
