Full job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Owner (Grade 11) to join our Settlement & Insights team on a permanent basis. This role is central to shaping and evolving the products that support the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC), ensuring they continue to meet the needs of customers, industry participants and Elexon's strategic objectives.

You'll play a key role in defining product vision, prioritising development and driving continuous improvement across your product portfolio. Working closely with Service Owners, Business Analysts, delivery teams and industry stakeholders, you'll ensure products deliver real customer value while supporting the future evolution of Great Britain's electricity market and the transition to Net Zero.

What you'll do:

As a Product Owner, you'll take ownership of one or more products, ensuring they continue to evolve in line with business priorities, customer needs and industry change.

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap, ensuring it aligns with Elexon's strategic objectives and customer requirements.

  • Manage and prioritise the product backlog, balancing new features, technical debt, defects and industry change to maximise customer value.

  • Work closely with Agile delivery teams, leading product-related ceremonies and providing clear direction throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Develop robust business cases and benefit realisation plans, ensuring investment decisions are evidence-based and deliver measurable outcomes.

  • Manage product budgets, ensuring investment delivers value and supports long-term product success.

  • Build strong relationships with Service Owners, Business Analysts, customers, regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders, ensuring products evolve in response to changing business and market needs.

  • Collaborate across product teams to identify cross-product dependencies and promote consistency in product management practices.

  • Ensure Epics, Features and User Stories are clearly defined and maintained within Azure DevOps, supporting effective Agile delivery.

  • Monitor product performance, customer feedback and industry developments, using insight to drive continuous improvement and enhance customer experience.

  • Champion product management best practice, helping to develop product capability and knowledge sharing across Elexon.

What you'll bring:

We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with strong stakeholder management and a passion for delivering products that create meaningful customer value.

  • Experience managing digital or technology products throughout their lifecycle, from vision and roadmap through to delivery and continuous improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile product management, including backlog prioritisation, user story development and iterative delivery.

  • Experience developing product roadmaps, business cases and benefit realisation plans.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior colleagues, customers and external partners.

  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience managing product budgets and investment priorities.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, using data and customer insight to inform product decisions.

  • A collaborative approach, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams including Service Owners, Business Analysts and delivery teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.

Desirable experience

  • Knowledge of the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) and Great Britain's electricity market arrangements.

  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments using tools such as Azure DevOps.

  • An understanding of settlement processes, credit arrangements or industry standing data.

  • Experience managing products within regulated or highly technical environments.

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and their application to operational services.

What's in it for you:

  • £77,850 salary

  • Excellent benefits including bonus, private medical insurance and generous pension scheme

  • The opportunity to work within a thriving organisation which can support your growth and development

  • We operate a hybrid working approach with 2 days in our London office
