Hotel Duty Manager

Job Summary:

Barony Castle Hotel has an exciting opportunity for a Hotel Duty Manager to join our team in the stunning Scottish Borders countryside, just 20 miles from Edinburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Duty Manager, or for a Restaurant Manager or Food & Beverage Manager ready to broaden their expertise within a hotel environment.

Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in delivering outstanding customer service, achieving hotel objectives, and driving profitability across the business. As Duty Manager, you will lead by example, working to the highest standards to ensure an efficient, welcoming, and memorable experience for every guest — consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.

Key Responsibilities

As Hotel Duty Manager, you will take ownership of the guest experience and day‑to‑day operations by:

  • Overseeing the delivery of consistent, high‑quality customer experiences across all food and beverage outlets and front of house operations, including banqueting and function business
  • Controlling costs and stock to ensure strong hotel profitability
  • Maintaining exceptionally high standards of health & safety, hygiene, and customer service at all times
  • Contributing to initiatives that develop the business, enhance staff skills, and improve guest satisfaction
  • Effectively delegating duties and supporting department managers
  • Assisting with the implementation of hotel policies and procedures
  • Routing sales productivity reports to staff
  • Motivating, managing, and supporting employees to perform at their best
  • Handling cash procedures, including end‑of‑day banking reconciliations
  • Managing hotel cleanliness, organisation, and security
  • Proactively dealing with customer feedback to ensure positive outcomes
  • Carrying out any other duties necessary for the efficient and successful running of the hotel

Essential Criteria:

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role within a hotel or food and beverage operation
  • Strong management skills with the ability to improve efficiency
  • A great outgoing personality with a positive, can‑do attitude
  • An approachable, attentive, and professional manner
  • A genuine passion for working with people as part of a team
  • The ability to perform well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment
  • A smart, well‑presented appearance
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK

Desirable Criteria:

· Personal License Holder

· Emergency First Aid Certificate

· Food Hygiene Certificate

Hours: 45 hours (average 40), 5/3 Rota

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £29,000 per annum
