CHRISTMAS AVAILABILITY IS MANDATORY

We are recruiting for our Christmas trading season. You must be available to work throughout the Christmas period, from Tuesday 1 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, including evenings and weekends. You must also work at least two of these three days: Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. We cannot consider applications that do not meet both requirements. Every site is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Coffee Barker is our much-loved coffee house in Cardiff’s Castle Arcade, a cosy, bustling spot in one of the city’s most beautiful Victorian arcades. Behind the counter sits a small, busy kitchen that keeps the whole café running, from the first breakfast of the morning to the last slice of cake in the afternoon.

We’re hiring a Kitchen Team Member to be the engine of that kitchen. You’ll prep, cook and plate our food menu, keep the kitchen spotless and stocked, and make sure every order leaves the pass looking right and on time, even when the queue is out the door. It’s a hands-on role in a close team, with real training and a real route into a chef career for anyone who wants one.

Location: Castle Arcade, Cardiff, CF10 1BU

Pay: £13.11 per hour

Hours: Full-time and part-time available

Availability: Full availability from 1 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 is mandatory, plus at least two of Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve

Experience: Kitchen experience welcome, full training provided

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparing, cooking and plating our breakfast, brunch and lunch menu to spec
  • Getting through prep and mise en place so the kitchen is always ahead of the rush
  • Keeping on top of washing up, pots and equipment throughout service
  • Receiving deliveries, rotating stock and keeping fridges and stores organised
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, tidy and food-safe at all times
  • Following all hygiene and health and safety standards without cutting corners

A hard-working, reliable team player who takes pride in a clean kitchen and a good plate of food. You stay calm when the orders stack up, you’re happy to jump on whatever needs doing, from the grill to the sink, and you hold your standards on a quiet morning just as firmly as on a packed Saturday. You must be fully available across the Christmas period.
