Full job description

Job description:

The Post Oak Group is seeking a Vice President of Deal Origination / Business Development to support the continued growth of our Middle Market Mergers & Acquisitions advisory practice. This role focuses on leading initial advisory discussions with founders and owners of privately held middle market businesses and converting qualified opportunities into signed sell-side M&A engagements. Inbound leads will be provided.

Compensation: 100% commission-only, performance-based (no base salary). Typical earnings range $100,000–$250,000+ per year, uncapped.

Role Overview

As Vice President of Deal Origination / Business Development, you will serve as a primary point of contact for business owners evaluating strategic alternatives such as a sale, recapitalization, or other liquidity events. You will represent The Post Oak Group early in the advisory lifecycle, partnering closely with senior bankers to ensure a seamless transition from origination to transaction execution. Inbound leads will be provided.

This position requires strong executive presence, consultative communication skills, and sound judgment when guiding clients through complex, high-stakes decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead advisory consultations with pre-qualified owners of middle market businesses
  • Manage the engagement process from initial discovery through execution of engagement letter
  • Present The Post Oak Group’s sell-side M&A process, positioning, and value proposition
  • Assess transaction readiness, owner objectives, valuation expectations, and overall fit
  • Address questions and objections with professionalism and clarity
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and a disciplined opportunity pipeline
  • Share feedback on market conditions, client sentiment, and messaging effectiveness
  • Collaborate with senior bankers to support a smooth handoff into transaction execution

Qualifications

  • Experience in senior-level, B2B sales, consultative business development or advisory roles
  • Background in M&A, investment banking, private equity, or financial services preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with founders and executive leadership teams
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills
  • Process-oriented mindset with experience managing complex sales or advisory cycles
  • Ability to operate independently in a remote, performance-driven environment
  • Availability to work 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time
  • Open for remote position
