Company Defender Ltd is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Accountant & Business Recovery Adviser to join our growing advisory practice. This senior role combines technical accountancy expertise with business recovery, restructuring, and strategic advisory services for businesses facing financial, operational, or commercial challenges.

The successful candidate will provide high-level financial management, accounting, tax, cashflow forecasting, and business recovery support to a diverse client base. You will work closely with company directors, lenders, solicitors, insolvency practitioners, and other stakeholders to deliver practical solutions that protect businesses and improve financial performance.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Accountancy

  • Prepare and review statutory accounts for limited companies, LLPs, partnerships, and sole traders.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts.
  • Prepare corporation tax computations and VAT returns.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Conduct detailed cashflow forecasting and financial modelling.
  • Review bookkeeping records and accounting controls.
  • Provide strategic financial planning and budgeting support.
  • Support clients with HMRC compliance and negotiations.

Business Recovery & Restructuring

  • Assess the financial position and viability of distressed businesses.
  • Conduct business health checks and financial diagnostics.
  • Develop turnaround and restructuring plans.
  • Prepare financial reports for lenders, investors, and stakeholders.
  • Support businesses facing creditor pressure, County Court Judgments, Statutory Demands, and Winding-Up Petitions.
  • Assist directors in developing business recovery strategies.
  • Liaise with insolvency practitioners where formal insolvency procedures become necessary.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational improvements.

Advisory Services

  • Provide commercial and strategic advice to company directors.
  • Analyse business performance and identify growth opportunities.
  • Assist with business acquisitions, disposals, and restructuring projects.
  • Support clients seeking commercial finance and funding solutions.
  • Deliver board-level financial reporting and recommendations.
  • Prepare business plans and financial forecasts.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and supervise junior accountants and support staff.
  • Review work produced by junior team members.
  • Support staff development and training programmes.
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new team members.

Systems & Technology

  • Implement and support accounting software solutions.
  • Assist clients with accounting system migrations.
  • Improve financial reporting processes through technology.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all systems.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must possess one or more of the following:

  • ACA Qualified (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales)
  • ACCA Qualified (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
  • CIMA Qualified (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
  • ICAS Qualified (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland)
  • AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting (with significant post-qualification experience)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Insolvency Certificate of Proficiency (CPI)
  • Certificate in Business Recovery and Insolvency
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner
  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • Diploma in Corporate Finance
  • Advanced Tax Qualification (CTA)
  • MBA (Master of Business Administration)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • AML Compliance Certification
  • GDPR Practitioner Certification

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification accountancy experience.
  • Experience within an accountancy practice, corporate finance, business advisory, or consultancy environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK accounting standards.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and management accounts.
  • Extensive cashflow forecasting and financial analysis experience.
  • Experience advising directors and business owners.
  • Proficiency with cloud-based accounting systems.
