Akessa Healthcare is looking for an experienced Procurement Officer to join our team, based at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong procurement and supply chain experience, ideally within the healthcare sector, to contribute to our commitment of delivering the highest standards of patient care and operational efficiency.

The Procurement Officer will be based at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, in Aylesbury.

As Procurement Officer you will be responsible for; leading and managing the procurement function and ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant acquisition of goods and services across all sites. You will work closely with clinical and operational teams to source the best products and services to support the hospital’s activities while maintaining a strong focus on quality, cost control, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Procurement Strategy & Stock Management: Developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with the hospital’s objectives, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality procurement practices.
• Supplier Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and service providers, negotiating contracts and managing performance to ensure the delivery of quality products and services on time and within budget.
• Contract Management: Overseeing the management of contracts, ensuring that terms and conditions are adhered to and that any issues or disputes are resolved in a timely manner.
• Proactive Staff Member: Being proactive in carrying out purchasing appraisals.
• Inventory & Stock Control: Managing inventory levels and working with clinical and operational teams to ensure the right materials and supplies are available when needed without overstocking.
• Budget Management: Monitoring and controlling procurement budgets, ensuring cost efficiency, and reporting regularly on procurement performance and savings opportunities.
• Compliance & Best Practice: Ensuring that all procurement processes adhere to relevant regulations, including frameworks, and maintain transparency, ethical practices, and compliance with internal policies.
• Sustainability & Innovation: Advocating for sustainable sourcing and environmentally-friendly procurement practices where possible, and exploring new suppliers and innovations that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
• Team Leadership: Managing and mentoring junior procurement staff, providing guidance and development opportunities.

About You:

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in a procurement management role, with healthcare sector experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of procurement practices, supplier management, contract negotiations, and cost management. Familiarity with healthcare products, services, and supplies is a plus.
• Qualifications: A relevant qualification in procurement (CIPS or equivalent) is desirable.
• Education: A bachelor’s degree from a reputable university is sought after.

• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
• Sound knowledge of procurement software and systems.
• Financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and track savings.
