As Fire and Security Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of fire and security operations at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and its surrounding estate.

Working closely with the Head of Fire and Security and wider team, you’ll help ensure systems and processes and procedures run effectively. From managing security vetting processes and access control systems to supporting the Pass Office and Security Control room, you’ll ensure the smooth and effective running of security and fire functions across the site.

You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues, providing guidance on access requirements, supporting major events and delivering fire safety and security training. In doing so, you’ll help maintain a safe, secure and well managed environment, ensuring the highest standards are upheld at all times.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide efficient administrative support to the fire and security operations teams, maintaining systems, records and documentation.
    • Support the operation of the Pass Office and Security Control Room as required, ensuring continuity of service.
    • Coordinate and administer access control, vetting processes and pass management.
    • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to support safe and secure operations across the estate including different events or functions.
    • Deliver fire safety and security training, including inductions and refresher sessions, ensuring staff remain informed and compliant.
    • Support the coordination of training requirements across the team, working closely with leadership to identify and address needs.
    • Act as a point of contact for fire and security queries, providing guidance and ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
    • Contribute to the safe delivery of events and day‑to‑day operations by supporting planning, coordination and compliance with fire and security procedures.

About you

Essential Criteria

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy operational environment.
  • Experience working in a security or fire safety role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Detail‑focused and methodical, you handle sensitive data with accuracy and discretion.
  • You have experience supporting or delivering training, with the confidence to communicate clearly across a range of audiences.
  • Proactive and adaptable, you’re comfortable responding to changing priorities and supporting operational requirements as needed.
  • Technically confident, you are proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working with databases and systems.

Desirable Criteria

  • Background in Health and Safety with a IOSH or NEBOSH qualification would be beneficial but not essential.
