About the Company:

grüum is a dynamic and innovative manufacturer specialising in skin and hair care products. We are committed to delivering high-quality products and services to our customers. Our new production facility in Stockport is at the heart of our operations.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Development Chemist to join our product development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality skincare, haircare, body care and home care formulations from initial concept through to launch. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a lab and manufacturing environment. You’ll use your initiative and work collaboratively with Quality, Production and suppliers to ensure projects move forward effectively and meet regulatory and commercial requirements.

Hours 37.5 per week (Monday to Friday)

Key Responsibilities:

● Formulation Development:

○ Formulate new products and optimise existing ones across skincare, haircare, body care and home care.

○ Scale up batches from laboratory size to full-scale production.

○ Liaise with suppliers for samples of new raw materials and relevant documentation.

○ Pack off products for testing, trials and small-scale production.

● Testing and Analysis:

○ Carry out a variety of tests to assess the quality, efficacy and stability of personal care and home care products using appropriate laboratory equipment.

○ Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.

○ Arrange external testing when required.

● Manufacturing Support:

○ Support blenders with the first manufacture of new products.

○ Provide technical support when formulation or production challenges arise during scale-up and manufacture.

● Quality Assurance:

○ Maintain quality control measures to ensure the consistency and safety of our products.

○ Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory submissions as needed.

○ Compile INCI listings for labels.

● Laboratory Maintenance:

○ Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.

○ Keep on top of raw material and consumable stock levels in the laboratory.

○ Maintain a good standard of housekeeping to keep the laboratory clean and organised.

Requirements:

● BSc or equivalent in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Life Sciences or a related field.

● At least four years’ experience working in industry.

● Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.

● Ability to multitask and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.

● Flexibility: the ability to react and respond positively to changes in priority and workload.

● Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to liaise and work with personnel at all levels.

● Confident using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Claude or similar software.
