Job Advert – Creative Costume Maker / Machinist (Experienced)

Olney, Milton Keynes – Full time

£29,120 per year

We are expanding our team due to continued growth in the business, and we are looking for an experienced Creative Costume Maker / Machinist who can hit the ground running and confidently produce highly complex, bespoke garments to an exceptional standard. This is not an entry level role, we are seeking someone with proven industry experience, strong technical ability, and confidence working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques.

For the right candidate, we expect to offer the top end of the banding level, reflecting the level of skill and experience required.

About the Role

You will work as part of our busy workroom team, constructing individual garments from start to finish using working notes, drawings, patterns and design specifications. You’ll be responsible for managing your own workload, meeting deadlines, and maintaining excellent communication with the Team Lead.

This role requires someone who is technically skilled, highly organised, and able to work independently while contributing to a positive, high output studio environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all working notes, drawings and instructions relating to garment construction.
  • Work to design specifications, seam allowances and pattern details with accuracy and consistency.
  • Manage and organise your own workload to meet agreed timescales.
  • Provide regular updates to the Team Lead on daily and weekly progress.
  • Report sewing machine faults promptly to the Team Lead.
  • Record low running stock items in the low stock book.
  • Keep all paperwork safe and organised within garment envelopes.
  • Communicate questions or concerns to the Team Lead to maintain productivity.
  • Use basic pattern drafting and cutting knowledge to support construction tasks.
  • Ensure all working notes and photographs are documented clearly on design sheets.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong industry experience in costume, fashion, tailoring or bespoke garment production.
  • Ability to construct highly complex garments independently and to a high standard.
  • Confidence working with a wide range of materials including stretch, structured, delicate and specialty fabrics.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Attention to detail in both construction and documentation.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and the ability to contribute to a supportive studio culture.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a creative, friendly and fast paced workroom where craftsmanship, innovation and teamwork are valued. You’ll work on exciting, varied projects and have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to a growing studio.

Benefits

  • Additional annual leave awarded through length of service (up to 5 extra days per year).
  • Birthday early finish.
  • Free on site parking (subject to availability).
