Green Bridge Community Housing (GBCH) are currently looking for Supported Accommodation Officers (SAO) to join our rapidly growing organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for patient, reliable, and empathetic individuals who can inspire people to make positive changes and realise their full potential.

This role will increasingly focus on supporting people on probation and individuals involved with the criminal justice system, alongside other vulnerable adults with complex needs. Our partnership with the Probation Service has grown significantly and, from October 2026, we expect people on probation to make up the majority of our referrals in Sheffield.

We are therefore particularly interested in applicants with experience supporting people with offending histories, substance misuse, challenging or complex behaviours, mental ill health, social exclusion and other complex needs. Experience of working within probation, criminal justice, rehabilitation, substance misuse, homelessness or supported accommodation settings would be highly valuable. The role requires staff who can build positive professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries, managing risk and encouraging meaningful engagement with support.

Our roles will suit those with experience in support and advocacy, particularly those who have worked with people on probation or individuals with complex and challenging needs. We also welcome applicants with experience working with refugees and other diverse client groups, or those with a qualification in Health & Social Care. Lived experience, graduate and voluntary experience may also be relevant where applicants can demonstrate the skills required for the role.

Please note: This is not a care worker role and does not involve intimate/personal care. A Sponsorship Visa is not available. A driving licence and access to a car is essential.

As a Supported Accommodation Officer, you will work directly with service users to support their social, emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing, while helping them develop the skills, stability and confidence needed to live independently and make positive changes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Probation, mental health services, substance misuse services and other partner agencies to support individuals with complex and higher-risk needs
• Provide practical, person-centred support to service users in line with their individual support plans
• Support individuals to develop independent living skills, reduce reoffending risks and achieve their personal goals
• Review and update support plans, risk assessments, and related documentation
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including daily contact notes and service user files
• Accompany service users to appointments and support engagement with external services and agencies
• Support service users to adhere to their housing and license agreements, and support with ensuring a safe and secure living environment
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
• Follow all safeguarding and organisational policies, including reporting risks and incidents
• Manage your workload effectively, prioritising urgent or high-risk cases
• Engage in training, supervision, and ongoing professional development

About You:

• A strong communicator with the ability to build professional relationships
• Confident working with people who may present with challenging behaviour, complex needs or a history of offending
• Empathetic and patient, while able to maintain professional boundaries and manage risk
• Confident working independently and as part of a team
• Able to remain calm, professional and non-judgemental when supporting individuals experiencing difficult or challenging circumstances

Job Criteria:

• Driving licence and access to a car (essential)
• Level 3 Health & Social Care (ideal but not essential)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in health, social care, housing, probation, criminal justice, substance misuse, or support (ideal)
• Experience working with people on probation, offending histories or complex/challenging needs (highly desirable)
• Experience delivering support packages (advantageous)
• Additional languages (Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Somali, Tigrinya) are a bonus
• Full-time, Monday–Friday (day shifts only)
