  • Regular clinical supervision

Why You’ll Love It

If addiction therapy is already your field and you want to stay properly connected to meaningful therapeutic work, we think there's a lot to like here.

You'll be joining an experienced team who understand the complexities of addiction, recovery and relapse. This isn't about squeezing in brief interventions and moving somebody swiftly onto the next service.

You'll work therapeutically with people throughout a structured residential rehabilitation programme, both individually and in groups, giving you the opportunity to build meaningful therapeutic relationships and support genuine change.

What also stands out is the wider recovery pathway around you. Clients can receive support spanning detoxification, residential rehabilitation, recovery housing, aftercare and community services.

For an experienced addictions professional who wants to remain hands-on and close to the reason they came into this work in the first place, this could be an incredibly rewarding role.

All About You

We need to be quite specific here.

Our client isn't looking for somebody who simply has an interest in addiction or would like to move into this field. You must already have substantial therapeutic experience working with addiction, drug/alcohol dependency or substance misuse.

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or equivalent recognised therapeutic qualification

  • Substantial relevant therapeutic experience

  • Significant experience working with addiction, drug and/or alcohol dependency or substance misuse

  • Experience delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions

  • Strong one-to-one counselling experience

  • Confidence facilitating therapeutic groups

  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults and complex presentations

  • Understanding of recovery, relapse and the behavioural and emotional complexities surrounding addiction

  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional boundaries

  • Compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental approach

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with care planning, report writing and clinical record keeping

  • Confidence working independently while using supervision appropriately

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Particularly relevant experience would include:

  • Residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation

  • Abstinence-based recovery programmes

  • Trauma-informed therapeutic work

  • Supporting clients with complex life experiences

Around 5-6 years' relevant therapeutic experience would fit particularly well with the level our client is seeking, but the relevance and depth of your addictions experience matter more than simply counting years.

You may currently describe yourself as an Addictions Therapist, Therapeutic Counsellor, Drug & Alcohol Counsellor or Substance Misuse Therapist . We're much more interested in what you've actually been doing than the exact title sitting on your CV.

What Will You Be Doing?

You'll work directly with people accessing a structured residential rehabilitation programme for drug and alcohol addiction.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions

  • Providing individual one-to-one counselling

  • Facilitating therapeutic group sessions

  • Helping clients explore addiction, behaviours and the circumstances surrounding them

  • Developing and reviewing individual care plans

  • Supporting clients to build insight, emotional wellbeing and skills for longer-term recovery

  • Maintaining high-quality clinical records and reports

  • Working within an abstinence-based therapeutic framework

  • Participating in handovers, meetings and case conferences

  • Collaborating with colleagues, referring professionals and external agencies

  • Supporting appropriate discharge and transition from the programme

  • Maintaining strong safeguarding, confidentiality and professional standards

  • Participating in regular supervision and continued professional development

You'll work with vulnerable adults who may also have histories involving trauma, domestic abuse and other complex experiences, so maturity, professional boundaries and genuine therapeutic experience are particularly important.

Working Hours and Environment

There are currently two permanent opportunities available:

Full-Time: 37.5 hours per week

Part-Time: 22.5 hours per week, approximately three days

There is some flexibility around the particular days worked for the part-time position.

This is an on-site position in Burton upon Trent , rather than a remote therapy role.

There is a rolling Saturday rota, currently approximately one Saturday every six weeks , with a day back in lieu when you work your Saturday. Therapists may also support an evening aftercare group as part of the wider service.

The centre is conveniently located in central Burton upon Trent, close to the railway station, so a driving licence and car are not essential.

Reaching Your Potential

Our client has more than 25 years' experience supporting people through drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.

You'll be joining an established therapeutic team rather than working in isolation, with regular supervision and ongoing professional development forming part of the role.

You'll also have the opportunity to contribute your own experience and ideas to the therapeutic programme, working within a service that supports people beyond residential rehabilitation and into longer-term recovery and independence.

For an experienced addictions professional, this offers the chance to deepen your specialist experience while continuing to do the hands-on therapeutic work that genuinely matters.
