Courier Operations Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Courier Operations Manager to lead and control day-to-day courier operations across same-day and next-day services. This role is responsible for managing people, performance, and processes, while working closely with the warehouse team to ensure seamless delivery of goods.

You will be the central link between drivers, dispatch, and customers ensuring high service levels, strong team performance, and smooth end-to-end execution.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Service Delivery

  • Oversee daily courier operations including same-day, next-day, and scheduled deliveries as well as international collections and deliveries.
  • Ensure all jobs are planned, dispatched, tracked, and completed on time
  • Manage live operations, responding quickly to delays, issues, or route changes
  • Maintain delivery performance, KPIs, and SLA compliance

Team Management & Leadership

  • Line-manage the courier operations team, including dispatchers and coordinators
  • Lead, motivate, and develop drivers and operations staff
  • Manage rotas, workload planning, holidays, and absence
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members

Driver & Fleet Management

  • Manage employed drivers and subcontractors
  • Plan routes and capacity in line with operational demand
  • Monitor driver performance, compliance, and professionalism
  • Ensure vehicles, documentation, and safety standards are maintained

Warehouse Liaison & Coordination

  • Work closely with the warehouse management and floor teams to align pick, pack, and dispatch schedules
  • Coordinate cut-off times, loading plans, and daily volumes
  • Resolve operational issues between warehouse and courier teams in real time
  • Support continuous improvement across delivery processes

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the main escalation point for operational and delivery issues
  • Maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams
  • Support account management and sales teams with operational input

Systems, Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee use of courier management, routing, and tracking systems
  • Ensure accurate job data, PODs, and handover information
  • Produce regular operational and performance reports
  • Ensure health & safety, compliance, and company procedures are followed


Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in courier, transport, or logistics operations management
  • Strong people-management and leadership experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of same-day and next-day courier services
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Confident using transport, dispatch, and tracking systems
