Exciting career opportunity at a Barristers Chambers in Norwich

Octagon House needs someone special to join our busy clerking team.

The ideal candidate would be seeking a new interesting challenge and be able to work calmly but efficiently under pressure when required. Experience working in the legal arena is desired but not essential as training will be provided.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate intelligence and diligence in their approach to their work and are both happy to work as part of a team, is also confident working independently and good at decision-making.

The role mainly involves day to day contact with solicitors and lay clients from all over the country looking for legal representation and therefore an efficient helpful, friendly attitude is essential. You will need to instil confidence when engaging with all of our clients and also be able to put them at their ease when necessary.

We expect a polite and friendly approach to all of our clients and to all members of chambers.

You would be part of a small, friendly, supportive team of barristers clerks , headed by a Senior Clerk, who work for our members of over 20 self-employed barristers. The role requires you to allocate Court cases to our barristers , agree fees for their cases, update their electronic diaries, and ensure that they have all of their case papers for each of their upcoming Court cases in advance.

We are located in the heart of historical Norwich and based in a unique period building full of character and charm. This long-established and well-respected barristers chambers in the vibrant city of Norwich is home to this forward-thinking, modern, progressive barristers chambers practising Family Law, Crime and Civil Law.

The roles is primarily as a clerk to the Family and Civil Team but with some opportunity to work in the criminal clerking team.

We are currently restructuring to enable us to meet our ongoing goal of growing and adapting to meet the changing needs of those we represent and to enhance the services we offer. Some marketing is involved in promoting chambers work and all barristers and their areas of expertise.

Your working hours will be 8.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Some flexibility may be required from time to time.

In return we offer training to the right candidate, a supportive working environment and a salary £37,000. Current annual leave entitlement is 4 week and Bank Holidays.
