Salary range: £60,000 – 70,000 per annum DOE
Contract type: 12 months’ FTC

Data Governance and Control is a dynamic, exciting team who work closely with all areas of Virgin Money. The team plays a vital role supporting the embedding of a robust 1st line Data Privacy and Data Management framework across Virgin Money. In this exciting role, you'll be a key member of the leadership team, helping deliver our strategy and supporting and coaching the bank on how to manage their data.

You’ll provide support to the Senior Manager, as well as leading a team of talented data management and data privacy analysts in executing critical processes. You will manage the relationship with business stakeholders, delivering excellent insights to data owners and stewards, ensuring our data risk profile is identified, understood, and managed at a business unit and enterprise level.


What you will be doing…

  • Leading a specialist team of data privacy and data management analysts, encouraging a growth mindset and focus on delivery. Manage high workflows and prioritisation within this team, ensuring tasks are completed within required time limits and support is given to escalated issues.
  • Providing data protection/privacy expertise to support with escalated issues within the team relating to data protection assessments, personal data breaches, records of processing and any other issues arising out of data protection legislation requirements.
  • Embedding a robust 1st line framework, facilitating the completion of all Data Privacy initiatives (including Personal Data Breach management, Data Protection Assessments, Records of processing and Privacy Notices) and all Data Governance initiatives (particularly Data Quality Issue management and preparation steps for BCBS239 compliance). This is to ensure a robust control environment to support Data Management and Data Protection & Privacy best practice across the business, and compliance with the relevant regulation (UK GDPR and BCBS 239).
  • Building and managing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that: Data Governance processes are adhered to; data risks and controls are documented and evaluated; and that appropriate MI and reporting demonstrates compliance position to Senior Management.
  • Co-ordinate and execute Data Management Framework process oversight, ensuring you have relevant and effective feedback for your data owners and other key stakeholders, driving timely completion of activities.
  • Overseeing the robust investigation and reporting of risk events (in collaboration with both first and second line of defence risk teams) across the bank to identify control gaps and ensure remediation plans are in place. Also, ensuring the adequacy and effectiveness of key controls can be evidenced and action plans are in place where improvements are required.
  • Contribute to the preparation of, attend and chair Data Governance Forums in addition to attendance at business area risk committees, holding the business appropriately to account.


We need you to have…

  • Demonstrable practical experience in an elevated data privacy role.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team.
  • Considerable experience of building and optimising relationships with senior stakeholders and projects/initiatives.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience of managing challenge and conflict.
  • Capacity to handle high workflows and prioritise appropriately, ensuring tasks are appropriately prioritised and completed to time.
  • A demonstrable track record in continuous process improvement and/or process implementation and adding value through management reporting.
  • High motivation and demonstration of a professional "can do" attitude.


It’s a bonus if you have but not essential…

  • Related experience in banking or financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Data Privacy qualification or professional accreditations (CIPP/E, CIPP/M).
  • Experience of managing deliverables within a matrix management structure.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Demonstrable practical experience in a data management role.
  • Proficient in the use of Power BI, JIRA, SharePoint, and Excel.
