Custody Team Manager

  • Hours – 37.5 hours per week

  • DBS requirement – Enhanced

About You:

We are looking for a passionate and driven Team Manager to lead and inspire a dedicated team delivering high-quality services, working closely with in local HMP’s that support individuals facing complex challenges, including ex-offenders and prison leavers.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced people manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is committed to achieving positive outcomes, and can build strong relationships with stakeholders, commissioners, and frontline teams.

As Team Manager, you will play a key role in shaping service delivery, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding, performance, and support for both staff and service users

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience managing, motivating, and developing teams
  • Can confidently manage performance and deliver against targets
  • Understands the challenges faced by ex-offenders and prison leavers
  • Has excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Is organised, proactive, and solution-focused
  • Can analyse service performance and drive continuous improvement
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion

About the role:

This role entails, working across different HMP’s within the West Midlands area and predominantly custody based. This role requires regular travel across an allocated area and therefore, a Full Driving License and access to your own vehicle with business insurance are essential.

In this role you will focus on:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, induct, train, and develop staff to build a high-performing and motivated team
  • Provide regular supervision, coaching, and wellbeing support to staff and volunteers
  • Set clear objectives and performance expectations through effective appraisals and one-to-ones
  • Lead by example, promoting positive behaviours, inclusion, innovation, and accountability
  • Recognise and reward achievements while supporting staff through challenges and change

Service Delivery & Performance

  • Ensure services are delivered effectively and meet contractual objectives and KPIs
  • Develop strong relationships with commissioners, partners, and stakeholders
  • Produce reports, statistics, and impact data to demonstrate service success
  • Lead on key operational workstreams such as safeguarding, health & safety, or service user involvement
  • Drive service improvements through innovative and solution-focused approaches

Compliance & Quality

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, GDPR compliance, health & safety, and equality & diversity
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement
  • Ensure services meet relevant regulatory and contractual standards, including HMPPS and CQC requirements where applicable
  • Support a culture of continuous learning, quality assurance, and best practice sharing
