Custody Healthcare Professional

Registered Nurse RGN / Paramedic

Custody Healthcare

Make a Difference Every Shift

No two days in custody healthcare are the same. At Sonar Cares, you'll work as an autonomous clinician within police custody suites, providing high-quality healthcare to vulnerable individuals at times when they need it most. You'll assess, treat and support detainees whilst working alongside police officers and partner agencies to ensure safe, effective care.

If you're looking for a role that challenges you professionally whilst allowing you to make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Healthcare Professional, you will independently assess and manage detainees presenting with a wide range of physical and mental health needs.

Working within your professional scope of practice, you'll determine whether individuals are fit for detention, interview, transfer or release, whilst providing appropriate treatment, clinical advice and onward referrals where required.

The ideal candidate will be a confident clinician who enjoys working autonomously and making sound clinical decisions.

Main Responsibilities

· Deliver autonomous clinical care within police custody suites.

· Undertake physical and mental health assessments.

· Assess fitness for detention, interview, transfer and release.

· Treat minor illness and injury and refer where appropriate.

· Assess alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal.

· Complete forensic injury documentation and examinations where required.

· Maintain accurate clinical records and reports.

· Work within PACE Code C and relevant legislation.

· Liaise with police officers, custody staff, ambulance services and partner agencies.

· Attend Court or Tribunal when required.

· Maintain professional registration, clinical competencies and mandatory training.

Essential

· Registered Adult General Nurse( RGN) or Registered Paramedic.

· Minimum two years' post-registration experience (or as required by the contract).

· Current unrestricted NMC or HCPC registration.

· Venepuncture competency.

· Previous experience within areas such as A&E, Acute Medicine, Urgent Care, Practice Nursing, Community Nursing or Drug & Alcohol Services and prisons (other relevant experience will also be considered).

· Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required).

· Ability to obtain Police Vetting clearance.

Desirable

· Previous custody, forensic or prison healthcare experience.

· Mental Health assessment experience.

· Leadership or mentoring experience.

Why Join Sonar Cares?

We believe our people are our greatest asset. We offer:

· Ongoing professional development.

· Comprehensive 2 week induction and role-specific training.

· Support with NMC/HCPC revalidation.

· Professional registration reimbursement.

· Pension scheme.

· Employee Assistance Programme.

· Generous annual leave entitlement.

· Paid mileage for eligible cross-cover shifts.

Recruitment Process

Due to the nature of this role, our recruitment process is more comprehensive than many healthcare positions and can take up to three months to complete, although it is often completed much sooner.

Following a successful interview, your offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory completion of:

· Enhanced DBS clearance.

· Police Vetting.

· Right to Work and identity checks.

· Professional registration verification.

· Occupational Health clearance.

· Employment references.

· Mandatory compliance documentation.

· Completion of all required induction and role-specific training.

· Our Recruitment Team will support you throughout every stage of the process.

Interview Requirements

If invited to interview, please bring the following original documentation:

· Valid photographic identification (e.g. passport).

· UK photocard driving licence.

· Evidence of your current NMC or HCPC registration.

Failure to provide the required documentation may result in your interview being rescheduled.

Join Sonar Cares

If you're looking for a rewarding career where your clinical skills, judgement and compassion can make a real difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
