Job summary

Corrigenda are seeking a skilled, directly employed Bricklayer to join our team delivering structural alterations, extensions, and capital works across our Hampshire County Council (HCC) contract portfolio. This permanent role includes a company vehicle and full benefits package. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality work and property maintenance services across Hampshire County Council’s diverse estate. The post-holder will ensure all public buildings, schools, and corporate properties are maintained in a safe, functional, and compliant state, executing both reactive repairs and planned cyclical work. This role requires strong organisational and practical skills, the ability to follow technical instructions, and an understanding of safe working practices. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the company’s out-of-hours call-out rota, responding to emergency works across the contract area as required.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to)

Technical & Bricklaying Duties

  • Laying bricks, blockwork, and stone on capital extension and structural refurbishment projects.
  • Setting out building footprints and installing structural damp proofing courses.
  • Replacing lintels, installing cavity trays, and executing complex structural repairs.
  • Reading technical drawings to ensure structural work complies with building regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe workspace on live public sector and school sites.
  • Digital Logging: Use a smartphone or tablet device to receive work orders, log completion details, track time, and upload before-and-after photographic evidence.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Regulatory Adherence: Execute all works in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and local authority building controls.
  • Safe Environment: Maintain clean, safe working zones, especially when operating within live public environments or schools.
  • Safeguarding: Strictly adhere to council safeguarding policies, remaining visible and identifiable via uniform and ID badges at all times.

Out-of-Hours Call-Out

Participate in the company’s on-call rota and attend emergency call-outs outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, where required.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Bricklaying (or equivalent time-served experience).
  • Valid Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card (Mandatory).
  • Enhanced DBS Check (Required due to working on school and care settings).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Clean preferred, for company van use).
  • Strong safety mindset with an understanding of risk assessments on public frameworks.
  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, and part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in using SMART devices and completing electronic documentation.
  • Ability to pass DBS checks for work in schools.

Desirable

  • Health & Safety qualification or ability to obtain a CSCS card.
  • PASMA and or IPAF

Personal Attributes & Skills

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of reading technical drawings and improvising solutions to maintenance challenges on site.
  • Autonomy: Trustworthy to work completely unsupervised, manage stock economically, and keep an organized vehicle tool inventory.
