Full job description

About Us

Tyne Tees Damp Proofing is an established specialist damp-proofing company covering Newcastle, Northumberland, Durham, Sunderland and the wider North East.

We carry out a wide range of damp-proofing, waterproofing and timber repair works, from treating a single wall in a domestic property through to larger projects involving multiple rooms, floors and basement conversions.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Damp Proofing Technician / Skilled Labourer to join our team.

The Role

This is a practical, hands-on role carrying out damp-proofing, waterproofing and associated building works in customers' properties.

The size and type of projects can vary considerably. Some jobs may involve treating one small section of wall, while larger projects can involve damp-proofing or waterproofing numerous walls and floors throughout a property.

You will be expected to work independently on smaller jobs and as part of a team on larger projects.

Typical duties will include:

  • Removing plaster and render from walls in preparation for damp-proofing works.
  • Drilling and injecting chemical damp-proof course treatments.
  • Damp-proofing and waterproofing walls and floors.
  • Installing cavity drain membrane systems.
  • Assisting with and carrying out basement waterproofing and basement conversion works.
  • Carrying out timber treatments for damp, wet rot, dry rot and wood-boring insect problems.
  • Installing airbricks and improving sub-floor ventilation.
  • Installing French gravel drains.
  • Installing ACO drainage systems.
  • Carrying out basic plastering and patch plastering where required.
  • General preparation and labouring associated with damp-proofing works.
  • Mixing and applying specialist waterproofing and damp-proofing materials.
  • Using power tools and specialist damp-proofing equipment.
  • Removing and disposing of plaster, rubble and other building waste.
  • Keeping customers' properties and working areas as clean and organised as possible.

Depending on your previous experience, the role may also include:

  • Assisting our joiner with timber repairs and replacement works.
  • Removing and replacing damaged floorboards, joists and other structural timbers.
  • Carrying out timber repairs independently where you have the necessary experience and ability.
  • Carrying out plastering and patch repairs to walls following remedial works.

Experience

Previous damp-proofing experience would be preferred, although we will also consider applicants who have worked within the building industry and have relevant practical experience.

We understand that applicants may have different levels of experience.

You may already be an experienced damp-proofing technician who is comfortable carrying out damp treatments, waterproofing, timber repairs, drainage works and basement projects.

Alternatively, you may have worked for a building or maintenance company and have good practical skills but require training in some of our specialist damp-proofing systems.

We are therefore interested in applicants with experience in areas such as:

  • Damp proofing.
  • General building work.
  • Skilled labouring.
  • Plaster removal and preparation.
  • Plastering and patch plastering.
  • Timber and floor repairs.
  • Joinery.
  • Drainage.
  • Groundworks.
  • Basement waterproofing.
  • Property maintenance.

Applicants should have some previous practical building or construction experience. This is not a position for someone with no experience of site or building work.

Full training can be provided in our specialist damp-proofing and waterproofing systems where required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Hard-working and physically capable.
  • Comfortable carrying out manual and sometimes dusty work.
  • Confident using hand tools and power tools.
  • Able to follow survey reports, drawings and instructions.
  • Able to work independently when required.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team on larger projects.
  • Professional and respectful when working in customers' homes.
  • Willing to learn new systems and methods.
  • Able to take pride in the standard of their work.

Driving Licence

A full clean UK driving licence is essential, as the role involves travelling to customers' properties throughout the North East.

A company van will be provided for work purposes.
