Our product range includes primers, damp proofing, levelling and smoothing compounds, tile adhesives, feather and repair mortar, grout and silicone.
The role
Kelmore is seeking a highly organised, procedure-focused, and motivated individual to join our Laboratory team as a Lead Quality Control Technician. This role is vital in ensuring product quality by conducting tests efficiently and acting as the conduit between the lab and production teams to maintain continuous high-quality production.
The role involves testing raw materials, bought-in products, and finished goods, supervising calibration of lab equipment, and conducting pre-production tests. Attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential.
The role will provide development opportunities for key core skills and an in depth understanding of both production and laboratory processes.
Shift flexibility is required as per business needs.
The hours are Mon - Thurs, 7.30am - 4pm and Fri 7.30am - 1.30pm
Main Duties:
- Lead Technician, supporting R+D and Production Teams.
- Test incoming raw materials to ensure they are within specification.
- Tie supplier certificates of analysis to deliveries of raw materials.
- Organise and conduct pre-production tests prior to the production of certain products.
- Ensure the testing stations are prepared and organised with the relevant raw materials required to conduct pre-production tests in accordance with the daily production plan.
- Test both powder and liquid finished products to identify and troubleshoot any issues on production or within a formulation.
- Act as the conduit between the Production and Lab Teams.
- Liaise with development chemists and production supervisors to communicate results of quality control testing.
- Liaise with R+D Manager and development chemists to make decisions regarding formulations and problems.
- Assist in resolving any issues related to out of specification products or raw materials.
- Work with production to retrieve finished product and raw material samples for approval as needed.
- Closely following a procedure to ensure all testing is conducted in line with standard operating procedures.
- Complete all test records accurately and on time.
- Liaise with R+D Manager and technical team to test any product queries.
- Work closely with the R+D Manager to provide an excellent quality control function to support production, technical, and all stakeholders, whilst being proactive to foresee potential inefficiencies and challenges.
- Attention to detail to ensure tests are conducted accurately and without mistakes.
- Identify opportunities for improvements in laboratory processes and suggest initiatives to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure the workplace is clean and adheres to the house keeping standards.
- Be flexible to work cross functionally in accordance with business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Taking the lead on communicating effectively between relevant Kelmore Teams and collaborating to ensure the business operates as efficiently as possible
- Contribute to the effective and efficient operational needs of Kelmore quality control function.
- Ensure that quality control requirements are met for all raw materials and finished products.
- Deliver excellent attention to detail to ensure consistency of Kelmore products.

Requirements
- Science based GCSE’s with above 5 grades
- Preferably a science-based A-Level or equivalent
- Previous experience in a quality control role is essential
- Leadership: demonstrate excellent leadership skills in supporting existing and potential new product and raw material testing.
- Personal development: a willingness to develop your skills and competencies through completion of relevant training in order to perform your role to the best of your ability.
- Safety conscious: demonstrate a ‘safety-first’ approach at all times and during all work tasks, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your colleagues.
- Effective time management: consistent compliance with correct start/finish times and break times, ensuring you arrive at work in sufficient time to commence work at your designated start time and ensure uncompleted tasks are communicated and shared with colleagues prior to finish.
- Communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with your colleagues at all times, following instruction from the management team as required.
- Attention to detail: vigilance in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP’s), batch filling records etc. in order to maintain consistently high quality standards at all times.
- Consistency: the ability to work with consistent speed and accuracy, maintaining production standards and working towards improving productivity without compromising quality.
