Full job description

Early Years Music Teacher – Hackney, Stoke Newington and Islington

Four hours per week initially, starting December: Monday and Thursday afternoons, plus Wednesday mornings.

We’re looking for a confident, engaging and reliable teacher to lead fun, educational music sessions for children aged 0–6 in local nurseries.

This is a part-time, freelance opportunity offering regular weekly work, with scope to build up additional hours around your existing timetable. Training, session plans and equipment are provided.

Additional opportunities

There may also be opportunities for weekday cover teaching, particularly during the summer holidays.

For those interested, additional work is available entertaining at children’s birthday parties for ages 0–6. Our parties bring together music, dance and imaginative play, sometimes dressed as a favourite princess, superhero or cartoon character. Party work is optional, ongoing and booked on an ad hoc basis, mostly on Saturdays. All equipment and party plans are provided as part of the training package.

Location

You must be local to, or within easy travelling distance of, Hackney, Stoke Newington and Islington. Bookings can be as short as one hour, so commuting from outside London is unlikely to be practical.

Essential skills

● A commitment to inspiring and engaging young children.

● Confident singing and a willingness to be playful, expressive and fully involved.

● A warm, enthusiastic, “sparkly” personality.

● Reliability, punctuality and clear, timely communication.

● Availability to commit to the regular weekly sessions from December.

● Ability to accompany simple songs on ukulele, keyboard or guitar. Please state which instrument you play and your level.

Desirable skills

● Experience working with children aged 0–6.

● Experience teaching music, drama or dance in an early years setting.

● A qualification in music, drama or dance.

● Experience working as a performer.

● Instrumental playing at an intermediate level or above.

Please apply with a little about yourself, your relevant experience, where you’re based and your availability. Let us know whether you’re interested in regular teaching, additional party work, or both.
