Job Summary

The Role
As our Information Governance and Data Systems Specialist (Digital), you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and protected. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation to support the configuration of digital systems for efficiency, and provide guidance on best practices for information governance. Every day brings variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real difference in the way we work with information.
The Information Governance and Data Systems Specialist (Digital) will:
- Support the development and implementation of information governance policies and procedures.
- Support Information Asset Owners with data flow mapping, data protection impact assessments, and information security risk assessments.
- Manage information requests and rights requests, ensuring compliance with legal timeframes.
- Maintain governance documentation including registers and logs.
- Provide training and advice on IG best practices to staff and stakeholders.
- Investigate incidents and breaches, supporting managers as required.
- Lead IG audits, identify non-compliance, and support action plans.
- Prepare and present KPI data and audit reports for the Information Assurance Board.
- Act as the first point of contact for IG queries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide consultation to partner hospices on IG and digital systems.
- Support configuration and optimisation of digital systems for data quality, accuracy, and ease of use.
- Deputise for the Data Protection Officer and Data Systems Manager as needed.
Requirements
The Information Governance and Data Systems Specialist (Digital) will have:
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and experience of Data Protection Legislation and Information Governance frameworks within a healthcare setting (e.g. Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, PECR, NIS Regulations, Caldicott Principles, National Data Guardian Standards)
- Experience of completing Data Protection Impact Assessments, Contract reviews, Subject Access Requests and Access to Health Records requests.
- Ability to use Microsoft365 Applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Forms and PowerBI etc.)
- Experience of delivering training and clearly communicating complex information to a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to prioritise and manage work to ensure legislative timescales are met.
- Able and willing to travel regularly between Little Hulton and Heald Green sites, and further afield upon request.
Desirable:
- Experience of gathering evidence to support the NHS DSP Toolkit submission.
- Awareness of database structures and data management

The successful candidate will be subject to a DBS Check at the level appropriate to the role, the cost of which is covered by the hospice. Any post holder within the organisation will be expected to undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures. All staff must work in accordance with their statutory roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding in accordance with the Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2023, The Care Act 2014, and Prevent Duty 2015.
