Full job description

Job Title: Painter and Decorator

Responsible to: Contracts Manager

Location: Field based, travelling across various sites

Purpose of the Job

To complete maintenance and refurbishment work, mostly of a decorating nature, although at times work of associated trades will be necessary.

Key Duties

1. Carry out pre and post inspections of occupied and empty properties to determine the extent of internal and external painting and decoration required.

2. Having established the decoration need carry out the most cost effective and expedient preparation/repair/ application of decorative products,

3. Carry out a range of external and internal painting and redecoration tasks in occupied and empty properties whilst achieving a durable and quality finish.

4. Prepare and clean surfaces using hand-held power tools and the appropriate methods. This could include scraping, sanding, sand-blasting, hydro-blasting, steam-cleaning; and “burning off” of loose paint; repair cracks and holes in walls and joinery by applying fillers/ sealant. Prepare/sand surface for application of decorative product.

5. Mix and thin paint to obtain desired colour and texture as necessary

6. Apply paint or other materials, such as stains, lacquer, enamel, oil, varnish, fibreglass, metal coating or fire retardant using brushes, rollers or spray equipment, following manufacturer’s recommendations.

7. Carry out all necessary administrative work associated with the office team’s requirements such as keeping accurate and timely records of all work from receiving jobs through to completion.

8. Liaise and work with all other trades providing technical advice as and when required.

9. To self-manage and audit all works carried out in agreement with the Operationa Manager.

10. To ensure all work is carried out in a safe, proper and thorough manner taking into account Health and safety legislation, Sencat policies, procedures, risk assessments and method statements

11. To work safety at heights, internally and externally using appropriate access equipment such as a tower scaffold.
