About the role
About the role:
We're offering an exciting opportunity to step into a role that plays a pivotal part in our operational success. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Track Maintenance Engineer (TME) to join our Maintenance Delivery Team.
As a Track Maintenance Engineer (TME) your role will be to lead, manage, and direct the Infrastructure Maintenance team in the effective inspection, maintenance, and renewal of track assets. The postholder is responsible for ensuring that all track infrastructure is maintained to the required safety, quality, and performance standards, while operating within agreed budgets and timescales.
What You'll Do:
As a Track Maintenance Engineer, you'll take ownership of leading and motivating a high-performing Infrastructure Maintenance team to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable railway operations. You will oversee the planning and prioritisation of maintenance and inspection activities, ensuring assets are maintained to the highest standards while meeting performance targets and budgets. The role involves driving continuous improvement in safety, asset reliability, and productivity, alongside ensuring full compliance with industry standards and processes. You'll play a key part in developing your team's capability, managing competence and wellbeing, and contributing to a strong safety culture. In addition, you'll collaborate with projects and stakeholders, manage asset handbacks and fault response, and use your expertise to identify future renewal needs, investigate incidents, and maintain the integrity and performance of the railway network.
What You'll Need:
- Relevant technical competence
- Experience in maintenance management, processes and techniques
- Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
- Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
- Knowledge of operational railway environment
- Knowledge of other functional disciplines
- IRSE Licence holder (Signalling only)
- Local Accident & Incident Investigation
- Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
- Incorporated Engineer
- Membership of professional body

You will also be entitled to 28 days annual leave.
Salary: £55,596-£65,966 per annum.
*Employees will be entitled to a 75% discount off leisure travel, this includes off peak and super off peak

An ideal candidate for the Track Maintenance Engineer role at Network Rail would be a technically competent and highly motivated leader with a strong background in railway maintenance and asset management. They would bring proven experience in managing maintenance operations, with a clear understanding of inspection regimes, fault management, and renewal planning within a live operational railway environment. This individual would demonstrate in-depth knowledge of safety and compliance processes, industry standards, and performance requirements, with the ability to balance operational priorities, budgets, and timescales effectively. As an Incorporated Engineer and member of a relevant professional body, they would combine technical expertise with structured, professional practice.
Equally important, the ideal candidate would be an inspiring people leader with excellent communication, organisational, and influencing skills, capable of building and sustaining a high-performing team. They would actively promote a strong safety culture, drive continuous improvement in reliability and productivity, and be confident in investigating incidents and implementing learning. With a collaborative mindset, they would work effectively with stakeholders and project teams, while developing the capability, competence, and wellbeing of their staff. Overall, they would be a proactive and accountable professional who ensures the railway infrastructure is safe, resilient, and performing at its best.
