NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.


The role:

The Storage & Virtualisation Team Lead is a key leadership position within Operations Infrastructure Services. The role offers significant development potential for both experienced managers and technical specialists transitioning into leadership. The post holder will act as the central point of expertise for server, storage, backup and virtualisation services, maintaining security, performance and KPI compliance across an estate exceeding 1,000 servers.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Full-time, Permanent

Base location - Westward House

Shift Pattern - Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Key responsibilities:

  • Leadership and management of a technical support team overseeing core infrastructure services.

  • Senior leadership participation within the wider Operations and eHealth management structure.

  • Ensuring support teams follow safe and secure processes aligned with NHSGGC and national policy.

  • Identifying, implementing, and supporting service improvements within the team and across wider initiatives.

  • Leading collaboration with project teams and third parties to develop, deliver, and transition change into operational support.

  • Defining and adopting service design standards, OLAs/SLAs, monitoring, and proactive maintenance practices.

  • Acting as the main contact for server and storage management, backups, virtual networking, and Fibre Channel networking.

  • Managing access and environmental monitoring across multiple data centres.

  • Leading major incident management, applying advanced problemsolving and deep technical experience.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • VMware vSphere in large distributed environments, including synchronous/asynchronous replication.

  • Advanced Windows Server diagnostics.

  • Windows Clustering and Cisco Fibre Channel switching.

  • Veeam Backup & Replication and associated monitoring tools.

  • Experience with server/virtualisation platforms such as IBM, HP, Dell, and related storage technologies (e.g., Fibre Channel).

  • Scripting, storage protocols, snapshots/replication, and performance optimisation techniques.
